Dogs left alone that long can be incredibly destructive. If there are two of them, they can do twice the damage.
No dog should be left alone for that long, every day. I'd suggest starting with a cat - they like to be left alone. Dogs are too social to be left that long.

Disregard what the person said below. Of course, it's not good to neglect a pet. However, if a dog has a doggy friend to be with, being alone 11 hrs does not constitute neglect-- provided that you're walking these dogs when you do see them on a daily basis, feeding them regularly, giving them affection, etc.
Certain breeds are more independent than others. However, it also depends on the specific dog. You can find a Chihuahua which can't stand to be without human companionship, and another Chihuahua who hates people.

Perhaps you should consider a cat instead? Cats do better with long lone times than do doggies. Dogs need attention and love on regular basis...that is a long period to be left alone, they become listless and become heart broken waiting for their masters to show up again..they often have anxiety attacks worrying about whether you are coming back to them...not a good idea AT ALL!

older dogs are content to be lasy and alone for longer times, younger dogs of any breed will get bored and become destructive,if you would like a dog, but cannot be home much, give a home to an older dog, perhaps one who previous owner has passed on, or moved to a nursing home, these dogs have usually been well trained and are happy with less activity, but just need a loving home. good luck in your search.

Schipperke (or Belgian Barge Dog). Perfectly happy to amuse itself or to enjoy the company of other dogs - but makes the most loving and loyal companion when with you.

Only irresponsible and selfish people get dogs when they do not have enough time to devote to them.
Dogs were not meant to go 11 hours alone.
