Is there anything I can do this to prevent this? I have tried putting lotion on my hands before I grab the door to head out into the cold and that doesn't seem to work.

It's static electricity. They do have some sprays as well that you can spray on your clothes to control static electricity in your clothes. It might help. Moisture in the air will also help.

It's static electricity. There is not enough moisture in the air. Get a humidifier for your home but if your outside you can't stop it. I always get shocked too. It's not much fun.

its just static electricity. it just takes getting used 2. idk how it bothers you i hardly feel it. your skins probaby more sensitive to it then mine is. but anyway it can be the material on your clothes that attracts the electricity like i know when i wear my northfacejacket if i rub on it then touch someones skin they will get shocked. its a reaction caused by materials. try turning on your tv then rub your hand all over your tv screen and touch metal, youl probably get shocked. just learn to get used to it because it happenes to everyone and theres nothing you can do about it. youll get used to it after a while.
