The Rep. told me I should get it because of Pixel Burn-out but shouldn't Samsung cover that?

Depends on the HDTV price. If the warranty if about one third of the price, don't even bother with that. Because it will expire in quite a few years.

The warranty that Circuit City offers is one that will make material replacement in store rather than having to ship your TV to a repair office or to Samsung company.

Samsung LCD TV's have unknown life, meaning that they may cease function normally. A lot of people buy them and say It's ok I have mine since last year. WOW HEY ONE YEAR FOR A 1K$ TV! Panasonic and Sony might cost a bit more, but they have a well-known long lifetime. Try to compare prices from a reseller to another.

As a former Circuit City TV salesman of 2 years, I would buy it if you can afford it. LCD TV's are fragile. The manufactures warranty is only a year, plus you pay to ship it there and back! CC's warranty is in home, no hassle to you. Pixel burn out is a big one if you watch TV at least 35 hours a week. Also, power surge proctection, remote replacement and other little things like color variations are covered. And if you decide to sell the TV in a year or two, you can get a prorated amount back on your warranty. Just because CC makes money on the warranty, doesn't mean you can't benefit from it. I always buy warranties on mp3 players, cameras, camcorders, laptops and HDTV's. Skip em on anything else.

Think about it this way... it's insurance. You may pay $100 now, but if ANYTHING goes wrong you won't have to pay for it. What if you spend $700 on the t.v. and it ends up needing to be replaced... wouldn't it be nice if they would do it for free under the warranty??

Another case in point. MY computer. I spent nearly 1100 for the laptop. I put an extra $100 warranty on it. Within the past year they have replaced buttons that my daughter pulled off, as well as fixing a glitch in the screen caused when my nephew downloaded yahoo messenger. It was well worth it to keep my computer in like new condition.

look at it like this you are coming out of your pocket hear in this case probably at least 2000 dollars....usually the manufacturers warranty wont cover what the additional warranty will and it usually on last for a year...im not sure how circuit city plan workss but best buys covers you for four yeasr with the option to renew after that period...it covers power sureg, dust, normal usage wear..etc..basically everything but physical damage...the man. warranty wont cover half of that...go with the add. warranty...if something goes wrong later youll be out a lot more money trying to get it fixed than just getting the warranty now.

No, the would not sell this warranties if they did not make money off of them.

Case-and-point: I spent $180 on 4 new speakers for my car. They wanted to sell me a $50 warranty that covered any accidental damage (including blow-out) for one year. I did NOT buy this. Its been over a year and the speakers still work fine.

Use to I would say no. However, I didn't purchase a Warrenty, or mainly the Accidental Damage on my last laptop. Needless to say, the screen got craked really bad, and they wouldn't replace it under the normal warrenty that comes with the laptop. They said it would cost over $700 for just the screen to be replaced. That is only a few hundred less than what I payed for it. Needless to say I had to end up buying a new one.

you got it! good job using your brain and beating those salesmen there! There most usually is some sort of warrantee that comes with the tv itself, and even if it doesn't cover something specific, odds the extra coverage they try to sell won't cover it, either. if something major goes wrong and you write to the company itself they will usually work with you and offer to help you out. my husband used to sell those protection agreements for appliances at sears, and he said they were all crap. they barely covered more than what you already get for coverage just for buying the things, and you never use the protection! if you call the company directly you can order spare parts and fix it yourself! they're all a money grab if you ask me!

I don't usually like warranties, but with flat panel HDTVs,
a warranty might be a good idea for piece of mind.
