I think it has something to do with the time of day it is served. It may be harder to get staff to make a prepare it.

Maybe the quantity of it. You get more at night, maybe, when people have the time to eat it, they're off work.

I love to go out either time, but maybe the night is more high profile, for a date, whatever. And more casual.

But food is food, so I'd be just as happy with the bargain, sometimes.

You are also paying for the stuff that serves the meal, and those costs are higher at dinner for the resturant, plus you are paying for table cloths that might need to be changed, napkins washed, some times larger portions or better quality, But honestly most of it is staff.
A lot of places make more of their money on dinner too, so that they can give you your lunch meal at a lower cost then what is normal or average. 70% is the typical mark up but more like 50% for the lunch, your cutting into their profits and ability to run their resturant with lunch. Don't think of it as the resturant ripping you off at dinner, but instead giving you a good deal at lunch.

The dinner portions are usually bigger and sometimes come with an additional soup or salad. Also, the restaurant owners know that people will not pay higher prices at lunch, but they'll "fork" over the money for the hgher prices in the evening hours.

It could be that there are my customers that come and eat dinner, so in turn you need more employees to run the front and back of the house. More employees means a higher labor cost and higher price per dish to pay the higher labor cost.

I always assume Dinner costs more because the portions are usually larger. Also, they are usually busier for dinner times, so they can get away with charging higher prices

If you're referring to restaurants, the dinners are larger because the portion sizes are bigger than the lunch menu.

The reason is becuase they need to work harder to make the food cuase they are probably falling asleep. And there are less people at dinner then at lunch so they charge more but if there's more people they still charge more becuase alot of people are there and they get more money.
