Did you know its just as dangerous to cross with the light as it is with jaywalking? I had a friend one time, who crossed with the light, I had already made it safely across jaywalking, get taken out by a car turning right.
In my opinion, I think it may be safer to jaywalk then wait, as long as you have enough time to cross before crossing traffic comes along. You really don't want to impede moving vehicles.
Thank you for the two points.

Look at it this way, they believe they are still spry even if they are not, but going to the corner to make a crossing takes too much out of them both time wise and physically. Also they think it can never happen to them.
I know, I have a mom, she's a born contradiction, and a born wanderer.

My guess is it's all to do with the fact in their day, there weren't so many cars on the roads, and they could get away with it....... and they fail to take into account there's alot more cars on the roads these days.

Hilarious....The elderly think because they have all those years on them they automatically have the right to do or say whatever they want. And jaywalking is one of those things that old people think are owed to them....the right to walk in front of carloads of people who clearly have somewhere to go.

well because we grew up , not having to be told when to cross the street. we look,if its doable we go. jaywalking became an issue when people became too stupid to cross the road without help. so if i need to cross the street in the middle.i look both ways and go, why? because im smart enough to not get run over. if you cant cross the road without getting wasted. then please dont spread your defective genetics, abstain.

If they could see clearly, were not confused and there children didn't forget them this would not be an issue. We shall see how well you do when your old.

Some older people just dont seem to realize what they are doing. They are often disoriented and/or distracted by their surroundings or just their own mentality. We just need to watch out for them and try to be understanding. After all, that'll be us someday. Scary thought, isnt it?
