In Islam we are taught that God has sent messengers to every corner of the world.. Its just that through time and lack of writing messages down, they were distorted and changed.. We as muslims are taught to accept all prior true messengers Moses, Jesus, Abraham, David, Adam, Noah, etc. many named in our Quran, many not, but we have to accept them.. Its the changed message we have disagreements with, but we believe these prophets originally all brought the same message from the same God. ^_^

Are you asking this question from the perspective of Christianity? If so, I'll share a Jewish perspective that you might find agreeable. In Judaism, there has always been a "covenant" that has been applicable to all mankind. These were given to Adam from the very beginning, and reaffirmed through Noah. They are called the Noahide Laws. There are 7:
1. Do not commit idolatry.
2. Do not murder.
3. Do not blaspheme the name of God.
4. Do not commit adultery or other sexual sins (such as bestiality, incest, etc).
5. Do not steal.
6. Do not eat the limb of a living animal.
7. Establish courts of justice to uphold the other 6 laws.

It is usually held by Jews and Muslims that the earliest humans believed in one God and did not know of idols.

Sorry Georgette but we're still around.
No they were not condemned by the CREATOR only by a man made Christian Religion.
and yes they had RULES given to them by their idea of Deity.
Judaism evolved from a Pagan religion as did all the rest. Christianity is a sect of Judaism. Even if they do not want to think so.

Actually there were hundreds of religions in the known world of the time. Some where agrarian and very peaceful. The Hebrews and then the Christians cold bloodily killed the followers of those religions.

The bible condemns all non Christian religions.

However the pagan religions are being revived at an incredible rate and the old ways and old Gods are being revived.

Of course not. It would not be fair. And God is Fair, otherwise he'd not be God, right?. I think people are judged by their intentions and their deeds. Someone could be doing something stupid and not realizing that it is bad, or someone may have the best of intentions, but the outcome is always bad. I don't think God did or does judge any group of people categorically. I think if someone tells you different, then they are messing up with your head.

Most pagan religions were condemned by God who wiped out the antedeluvians with a flood. So God condemned it.
