I'm an assistant manager for wal-mart and I have to agree with the others. If you have a receipt then you could exchange it at the store. Without a receipt, they may do it. It's hard to say whether or not the store you go to would do it without a receipt but I know that if a customer took the time to drive aaaaall the way back to the store and waste their time for a $6 pack of chicken I would just exchange it out for them. Like the others said, it's really hard at store level to check the freshness of every product that comes in the door, so letting us know helps.

You should just take the chicken back to the store in its original package, I would of taken it immeditaly. If you had your reciept then that would be opertune also. If you do not have your reciept there might not be much you can do. However, I would still contact the Produce or Meat Manager and tell them about it. If you have to talk to the store manager. After all chicken is very hard to not spoil, so Wal-Mart may be unaware of its problem. The chicken could of came from the factory already in that condition. As a rule of thumb I never leave chicken in the fridge even if it is just for a couple of days, and the expiration date is longer.

Take your receipt and the chicken, in it's original packaging, back to the store. Although, if the chicken is in it's original packaging, Walmart will take it back without a receipt.
I've experienced similar food problems with Walmart and they took it back no questions asked when the problem is obvious.

First, do NOT buy fresh food from Wal Mart. They drain their suppliers to the point where the customer ends up with substandard food.
Second, take the rotten chicken back (in a tied plastic bag) to customer service and demand a cash refund.

Take your chicken back to the store. You DO NOT have to have the receipt for food. Just take the package with it. They will give you your money back or replace it.

I bought some chicken last Thursday. I cooked it the same day. It several days before the expiration date. It was rotten. Take it back with the receipt. They need to know the meat is rotten. It has happened to me before. I shall buy no more meat at WalMart!

You simply take it to Customer Service and tell them what happened and they will refund your money. When they smell it ( and if it's truly spoiled they won't have a choice) they will give you your money back or a gift card.

Take your receipt back with the bag of chicken and tell them about it. They should refund your money, or exchange it out if you don't have the receipt...
