This happens, I have noticed, with a lot of different religions.
People have some false knowledge on what your beliefs are when they actually have NO CLUE what they are talking about because they don't know a lot about your faith. They just know what they "heard" from someone else who has no clue either. Then they bash you with this "knowledge." If you tell them that they aren't right on what you believe, they say you're wrong. *laugh* How could someone who isn't a member of your faith possibly know more than someone who is. Then when you try to tell them what is the truth about what you believe to clear up any misconception, they tell you they don't want to hear anything from you. I have seen this often of my faith as well as have seen others talk about it happening with their faiths. What are your takes on this. Please helpful answers from people, not demeaning ones. What inspired me to ask this today was reading a question about why people spread rumors about Catholics.

People here seem to think I am a Catholic because of the last sentence I wrote about it giving me the idea for the question but I am going to clarify that I'm not. That's all.

Oh and P.S. I don't blame people for thinking that . . . just that it was kind of worded funny.

Yes, I know what is meant by some outside people knowing more than the people of the faith that don't go that much or don't care to learn or just don't understand. So some of you that said it wasn't ALL people, that's true. I am talking about us that DO know a lot about our faiths and those that haven't learned of our faith from an actual reliable source, whether part of our faith, studying on their own, or religious classes, etc. Thanks for helping me clarify that.

yes, I totally agree 100%.. I am muslim and it seems the west just doesnt even care one twit about teaching the facts about it.. We are all blood thirsty terrorists to them.. They never realize that its not the religion to blame, its twisted fanatics who interpret the faith wrong to blame, which there are fanatics everywhere in all faiths.. 99.999% of muslims fear terrorism like the rest of the world.

Hello! What you have observed is true. As you have said correctly, such a people "have no clue". That is they walk around with a lack of true data, and therefore really confused about the subject. To be in a confusion is not comfortable for an individual, therefore he/she tends to find a stable datum to stop that confusion. In the ocean of information, people are getting that stable datum from the first thing that comes on their way, that is from mass media. Now, mass media doesn't necessarily gives one the true data on something, this is to say very gently. Then, an individual accepts some false datum or idea about certain faith and sits on that information, so he/she feels "okay" now with a subject under discussion and not confused. That's the mechanism how it works. That's why afterwards, you will have a hard time with such a person to clear up any misconception.
I hope, my answer was helpful.
In addition, some the good news to the above: there is an easy way to overcome difficulties and build an understanding between people. I have learned how, in the works of Mr. L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of my religion, Scientology. You can learn that too - just find the nearest Scientology Church or Scientology Volunteer Minister in your area.
All the best, Oleg.

Does Christianity do the same? If you say no, then you are not seeing the truth. I don't claim to know everything about a religion, but what I do know, I will challenge people with. Sadly, I do know Christianity better than some Christians, and that is sad. Their only argument is to throw quotations at me from a book I consider to be inaccurate. They don't justify what they mean, and it's confusing and makes them seem like they're following their faith blindly. Even you can see this.
Another point is that people, such as myself, often try to figure out different religions in order to understand. In doing so, we learn more about the religion than the members do.
You: "How could someone who isn't a member of your faith possibly know more than someone who is?" This is a common fallacy that people in certain religions turn to, as if it's some mind-boggling question.
My answer: Just because someone isn't part of your faith doesn't mean they can't learn about the faith itself. Most of it's not secret knowledge. You may pretend it is, but it's not.

Because people are closed-minded when it comes to religion. They think because the know something it is automatically right, and when they hear that they are wrong, they can't stand. U know the saying WHEN I AM RIGHT I'M RIGHT, WHEN I AM WRONG I AM STILL RIGHT. This is how they view it. Admitting that they were wrong would mean that they judge something without the facts and It made make them seem hypocritcal when they say that they don't judge.
This happens within the same faith when a person doesn't believe exactly the same as most of rest. I know I got in trouble in Church for asking questions. No they were normal question like who did Cain marry if Adam and Eve hadn't had daughters yet and they were they first people on Earth.

this all sounds very religious to me. Arguing over relgion is not very spiritual. If you want to know what I think I sort of agree with St Francis who said it is better to understand then to be understood. We are not supposed to argue with people were supposed to live what we beleive and living it we will show it with our actions and if its good people will want it. You have to have it to give it away and if were fighting over thees and thous we aint got it.Now Ill tell you why IM ANGRY Concerning Catholics I am a Roman Catholic there is alot of misconceptions about my faith.I know what your saying we are not Idol worshipers and the list goes on however The truth is truth however and covering up and hiding child rapists is not a misconception it is a fact. The fact that the vicitms are still to this day treated badly for speaking up is also a fact. So i no longer Go to Mass I go to a protestant church in protest and when there are misconceptions about The Roman Catholic CHurch that are not true I try my best to give the facts,

Humans are complex & do not pay much attention to what they are saying, doing or thinking most of the time.
I grew up Roman Catholic & then moved to a protestant/mormon area, to hear some real whoppers regarding what people thought of the R.C. presentation of christianity.
Perhaps part of the problem is the belief thing; it's based in beliefs, which don't get examined too closely, so the habit of not examining thoughts, etc. is actually reinforced? Just a possibility.
Interesting question.

Yes, I also see this happening with many faiths. I think some people want to dislike the particular faith, and they therefore do not want to hear the truth about it. They are afraid of having to change their position about the faith. For some reason, they have this strange "need" to hate that religion. Perhaps it makes them feel self-righteous in their own religion or something.

If one trust and believe one's religious, will be a superinsitution. Knowledges are experienced plus education plus thinking and compare with other and proof. Normally nowaday the knowledgement are only education which is only the experienced of other people may not appropreitely apply on this case. We need to proof by compare with simular object, the subject can be side proof mostly. The Hindu religious were refined so many times and dicussion with different holly mens. Budha had been ruined all their proofs.

Certainly I find many people who will tell me about *my* faith.
They know that I don't *really* think there is no god, that deep inside I know there *is* but I would rather embrace my immoral, drug abusing, sexually irresponsible, cat strangling lifestyle.
(Okay, I made up the part about strangling cats. I just give them dirty looks.)
The only person who knows your personal faith is *you*.
But... having said that, I can also say that as far as knowing *facts* about the faith in general, there may be people who are not of that religion who *do* know more about it. I know a lot more about the bible than a few of my Christian friends do, and am upon occasion, able to correct their misconceptions and point them to the right verse. There are also many Christians who know far more than I, of course.

this happens so often in life. People are lazy and rely on everyone else to inform them. I can't tell you how many times someone watched a movie on a deep subject and they walk away with the conclusion of that movie as being the decider of information. People are just too lazy to find out the truth.
