From the 10 Commandments

Exodus 8 "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. 11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Today the Sabbath is considered Sunday by Christians. We are no longer considered under the Law but it should still be held as a religious principal to set aside a day to rest and reflect on God.

No where in the whole bible is Sunday ever mentioned that you cannot work that day. Sunday is the first day of the week.

In the Old Testament it says not to work on the seventh day which is Saturday and a study of history will reveal that the day started at sundown so the Jews did not work from sundown Friday till sundown Saturday.

You go to the New Testament and you find the Jews had what you could and could not do on Saturday down to a science. They even figured out how far you could walk on the Sabbath. the bible mentions a Sabbath days walk.

to answer your question, if you want to keep the Law of Moses and keep the Sabbath day Holy then you must not do any work from sundown Friday till sundown Saturday.

Actually, the Sabbath was on Saturday, not Sunday. I don't know when Christians decided to change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday and then made church a part of the Sabbath, because according to Sabbath tradition, the act of even driving to church would bea sin.

Don't put yourself on religion. We are not under religion now, but instead under the covenant of Christ, which is freedom.

If you really must know what the verses are, they can be found in Ex. 16:

Exo 16:23 And he said to them, This is that which Jehovah has said, Tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath to Jehovah. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil. And that which remains over, lay up for you to be kept until the morning. Exo 16:24 And they laid it up until the morning, as Moses said. And it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it. Exo 16:25 And Moses said, Eat that today. For today is a sabbath to Jehovah. Today you shall not find it in the field.Exo 16:26 Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

Exodus 20:8-11 "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy...six days you are to labor and do all your work, but the Seventh day is the Sabbath. On it you shall not do any work..." (not Sunday, the first day of the week)

And yes, mowing the yard is still work... :)

PS - For those who will say Jesus did away with the Sabbath: God's law is perfect and didn't need any revisions. Jesus said he came to fulfill the law, not to destroy it.

None of them. that is an assumption that replaced into extracted by an previous churchman from historic cases. He replaced into steeped in custom and got here up with that aspect. the classic translation of Genesis a million:2 is perhaps not good, it isn't the purely thanks to translate that verse. utilizing an similar words in Hebrew, i can instruct that the verse in Genesis a million:2 may be translated exhibiting the the Earth replaced into recreated. So the Earth may be any variety of years previous, purely not the way all of us recognize it now. What i'm speaking about is the hollow idea of Genesis a million:a million - a million:2. i trust that there is a few truth contained in the idea.

The bible don't say anything about Sunday. The Ten Commandants say that Saturday is the Sabbath.

No verse. Supposedly, God commanded the Israelites to observe Sabbath on the seventh day of the week, not the first.

Our parrish priest--Father McPoland at St. Patricks'-- taught us that this indeed did mean no mowing yards, no washing.

Indeed, my study of Hassidic Judaism bore this out, that G-d gave us the Sabbath (which the Christians moved to Sunday in honor of Our Lord Jesus Christ) to rest.

Exodus 20:8-11. “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”

I firmly believe that to not work on the sabath- whether it be sat or sun- is what you would normally do on any other day. If mowing the lawn is restful to you, then do it. If fishing is relaxing to you do it. There is alot of work you do that is fun and thats what it is all about. If its work to you then you shouldn't be doing it. If you can do work and it takes away stress, then its restful.

It is a commandment

Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy.
It also does say no work, no work in the fields, no this and that and says any work can wait until the next day. It is basically saying we need a break and can't go on and on and on.....
