the check engine light comes on when going up hill or the motor is under any little strain, it is only getting 6 miles to the gallon, and it doesnt have near as much power as it did a couple of months ago. How can i fix it? and could it be the fuel pressure regulator?

When you had the tune up done did you also have the transmission checked too. If it feels like it is missing it could also mean that one of the spark plugs werent gapped right or one of your wires are bad. Maybe your timing isnt set right. You can easily find out what the problem could be by removing one of your plugs you know the spark plugs and looking at it . If everything is running as it should the plug should look clean with no deposits. if there is oil deposits you need engine work. if the plug looks blistered it is because you dont have the correct type of plug in your truck if you drive at higher speeds you need a colder plug if the plug has carbon deposits it is caused by cracks in the distributor cap between the towers of affected cylinders or a sticking choke , colgged air cleaner , low compression, rich fuel mixture if the plug is reddish looking it means it is covered with mmt which is an anit knock additive in gasoline and no problem . just clean the plugs. if the plug looks shiny yellow or tan you need to replace the plugs and it is caused by fast starts , if the plug has ash deposits it means that your fuel and oil contain additives and you only have to clean the plugs and if the plug is broken it is a result of over advanced ignition timing , inferior gas , lean air fuel mixture, poor carburetion , engine lugging or increase in compression ratio dru to combustion chamber deposits or engine modification. if the plugs are just fine make sure you dont have a leak somewhere in your carb. system. Check the plugs first tho. then the timing.

Re-set the ignition timing, 10 degrees before top dead center. Fule pressure should be around 35 psi
Make sure the engine doesn't have an open thermostat.
