America is considered the land of opportunity by many nations around the globe. Thousands of people desire to live in this country and go to great lengths to have that opportunity. "Immigrants come to America for many reasons, but mainly they come because it's the land of opportunity and upward mobility where achievement is more important than inheritance" (Zuckerman). Many who fill the immigration quotas are able to use legal means to reach the United States, while others depending on where they are from and their particular circumstances must cross the border illegally in order to reach their dream. Those who believe that all immigrants who wish to make a positive contribution to this society should still be welcomed point to the words of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who long ago in a speech to the Daughters of American Revolution proclaimed, “Welcome, fellow immigrants." Yet there are also many Americans, including people in positions of power, who claim the illegal immigrants are taking jobs away from the working class. We are a nation of immigrants and ever since the beginning of America. And the debate on the immigration situation has reach a level that the solution is no where to be found. Immigrants, particularly of Mexican descent, are being blamed for taking over U.S jobs, when in fact; the nation’s economy would crumble without them.

You know I don't have a problem at all when some one from another country comes over here and gets a job, But they had better of come here legally as there are a lot of jobs that just don't pay worth a crap and somebody has to do those jobs as most legal citizens are working at higher paying jobs or to put it plain and simple a lot of the younger generations that don't want to get there lazy butts up and work a legal job just are not going to go out and find those jobs when they can steal sale drugs and what ever else you can think of. I have been working since the age of 14 I am now 34 so if you want to come to the USA and get a job well come on over but do it the legal way

The reason illegal immigration has reached such a crescendo in the last few years has nothing to do with jobs. It has everything to do with with Homeland Security. There are numerous reports of possible terrorists attempting to get Mexican IDs and sneaking across the border with true Mexicans. Our porous borders not only allow illegal immigrants seeking a better life to cross over, but also terrorists who seriously wish to hurt our country. Unfortunately for the "illegals" who are here merely to seek a better life, there is no way to separate them from those wishing to do us harm without identifying everybody and then sorting them out.

Liberals try to make this a racist issue, but it is most definitely not. The country is at risk and the top priority is weeding out those who would attack us. In the process of doing that, illegal immigrants are going to have to be "inconvenienced." Too bad, but that is just the way it is.

If you do research and get the inside scoop from alot of the illegal immigrants you will find that most of the ones that come from Mexico are the criminals that are let out of prison and The government of Mexico helps Them. I also know that the illegal immigrants are taking the job in the area I live in and is the 4th or 5th fastest growing illegal Mexicans in the US. I live in the south Georgia area. My mother was laid off of her job (she is white) and was going to the unemployment office in Savannah Ga when she was sitting with 2 51 year old males (twins who were black) and they said the same thing. They were brick layers and are unable to find work due to the huge population of illegal immigrants because they work for much less money. When you see houses in our area being built and bricked up you will see anywhere from7 to 15 Mexican's working and aren't able to speak a bit of English. So yes illegal immigrants are taking the jobs from the working class at least in south Georgia. I see it first hand.

By virtue of the location of Mexico it is easier for them to migrate her legally or illegally whatever may be the case! Yes they say they are taking the jobs that nobody wants. That is of course a misnomer they are just taking jobs! Now Kansas wants to make it so they do not have to have insurance or tags for there vehicles when they drive. My question is what do we do when one of them hits us? The Fed's want to give them social security "I have been paying into that system all of my life "I have found out that when i get there i may have a hard time getting it if i get it at all!Something is wrong with that! I can see legal immigration but the U.S. is about to implode if they keep up this illegal immigration and they don't seem to care about our lawful society at all or Americans in general because they have no wish to be assimilated into the U.S and obtain citizenship! "In plain and simpler terms this is a carefully orchestrated invasion of our entire country"! facilitated by and condoned by both the liberals and republicans!

Not going to complain! I see what hard wokers they are ! It's because of them I am secure in my great paying job! They have in no way posed any threat to my well being! I see these people working holidays including thanksgiving and Christmas! I respect a honest hard working man and despise the lazy no ambition person! To be perfectly honest, the problems I run into are lazy , wining fellow Americans who always have an excuse not to work or a bad attitude!

I respect your view but disagree. Things have changed since Roosevelt. A lot. We depend way too much on foreigner for our products, energy and manpower. Our open society is a Trojan horse that's gonna kick us in the head someday. We must be realistic. The U.S.A. is the life boat of the entire world and we are filled to capacity. What good does it do to take on more survivors, if we all perish. America needs to start taking better care of America before it's too late.

Many complain about legals and illegals, I guess its the fact that being legal kinda slows down the rate of immigrants who enter the U.S. Personally, I believe there's no difference between legals and illegals, either way, neither may know English, both may possess a threat, and are probably illiterate.

no, the nations economy will crumble if we continue to hire people who do not pay the taxes that support the educations they expect for their children, the healthcare and other public assistance they might need..... immigrants are what the country is built on ...yes!! - immigrants who are properly documented and contribute to our economy. we should welcome them all.... but if you enter illegally you are not an immigrant. you are a criminal.
