No. That's a myth. Unless you're a professional breeder, you shouldn't breed your dog. If you overbreed her, it will actually shorten her lifespan.

Actually, their have been studies done to prove just that question. The studies proved that the size of the litter can change with multiple breedings. A female has been bred with 3 different males and each puppies DNA from the litter tested. It showed that the puppies DNA didn't all mix, but that there were 3 different fathers to those pups. They have done that kind of testing more with large breed dogs, like borzois.

The only truth to that, is the more the dog is mated, the more likely the dog will become pregnant. But it does not alter the litter size. Only the breed of the dogs involved in the mating, can determine that.

No, the more times they mate the better chance they have of being pregant. Nothing to do with the amount of puppies.

Sure, if the dog has 4 the first time, and 5 the next, that makes 9, and even if they have 3 more the next time, then it's 12 overall . . . . . . . do I need to go on?

if your breeding for no reason, one puppy is too many. with all the homeless pups in the shelters, there's no reason for breeding. show dog breeders and working dog breeders (border collies etc in cattle country) are the only exceptions.

I cannot swear to this but I have heard that the older a female dog is, the smaller the litter will be. This is because as she ages she has less ovaries and therefore litters in the older years tend to be smaller.
