I'm planning on writing a letter of introduction and or interest to a woman who knows no English. I know no Spanish and will have the letter translated. Help me make a good impression if that's possible. Advise me on what to say in the letter. It's been a year and all I've been doing is saying hello and good morning and giving her my smile. I want to get to know this woman, become friends if possible. Need more, ask and I will amend. YOUR TURN!

Thank you to all that are sincerely trying to help. I plan on using a website: thismeansthis. What I was really looking for was help on what to say. This will not be like a regular meeting someone where you can just express ideas and get an immediate response. This is what I have come up with: First I will let her know that I have been wanting to talk with her for a long time, then I will tell her about the translator I have found, then I will ask about her situation (single, married) and ask if she'd be interested in being friends, then I will ask her to have lunch with me at a Mexican restaurant or where ever she might like to go

I'm a quiet, nervous, shy person at first. It takes me an unusually long time to get comfortable with new people in my life. That's why I'm looking for advice. I'm interested in this woman, would like to become friends for a start. With the language barrier it will be tricky. I just wanted help with my first letter. Don't want to offend, want to make good

That's really sweet. I wish I knew better Spanish so I could help you. I promise you one thing; you're letter will be impressive even with all the mistakes that you might make. Actually I guarantee that your mistakes will make your letter more endearing. Who can resist a heart felt reaching out from a nice person? Just do the best that you can and DON'T make it perfect. You'll be perfectly charming just handing it to her and smiling. So sweet...

You need to write a letter expressing your feelings, not thinking that she may or may not understand. Only you know what you want to say. Just write it as if she is English speakng and translate it on a website such as http://babelfish.yahoo.com/ After it is "translated" on the website, I would still have a native Spanish speaker proofread it for you before you give it to her. If you are really interested in pursuing anything with her, maybe you should look into learning basic Spanish.

Write a letter in English and just give it to her with her name on it. She will be happy, if she likes you, and get it translated later and then whatever happens, happens.

I speak and write fluently in Spanish. My advice would be to be yourself and write the letter in English and I can help translate it for you. You can email me at ivy_alamo@yahoo.com.

Find out about her family, values, children? Goals, lifestyle, and favorite foods, desserts, music, ...maybe ask her what the one most important thing in life she wants. Be yourself..what do you talk to your friends about.
