You know its funny cause people who live on farms are very careful to close gates so the livestock dont get out.. Just natural instinct really..
There is another saying which it may be reated to:
"Do you come from Bardney?"
The story of the arrival of the bones of St.Oswald at the monastery has given rise to a well-known Lincolnshire saying. On the night that Oswald's bones arrived, the monks shut the abbey gates and refused to allow the coffin in. During the night a 'pillar of light' shone skywards from the cart and convinced the monks that Oswald was indeed a saint and that they had been wrong to shut his coffin out. Ever after, so the story goes, they left their gates wide open - hence the saying "Do you come from Bardney?", meaning that you have left a door open.
Said to someone who fails to close an external door behind them on entering a building, thus causing a discomforting draught. There are regional variations, in Lincolnshire for instance, one will hear "Do you come from Bardney?" a reference to a windswept fenland village in that English county. Also said, more generally, of people with crass manners or personal habits.
Umm maybe just shut the door.. lol

"Were you born in a barn"? A statement that people make to each other, usually to children who come inside the house and leave the door opened. It doesn't really mean that the child was born in a barn it's just a statement to remind them to close the door, when they go in and out.
I hope I have explained this, so that you understand.
