No. Men don't operate like that. They are motivated to ask women out even if there friends have bombed out. It is fine for you to say yes or no depending on how you feel. It won't effect your popularity (unless you are mean when you turn the guys down).

Who cares if they are? Any guy that's so afraid of rejection has some issues to work out by himself before he's dating material.

in some cases yes but that can be the tell-tell sign of a person that is not confident. and in past experiences, girls prefer guys with confidence
