Hepatitis C virus is transmitted in breast milk, but the amount transmitted is usually too small to cause the disease. If the mother has hep. C before delivery, there is a strong chance that the virus will be transmitted to the baby at the time of delivery, so you need not stop breast feeding. However, if the mother acquired the disease after delivery, it is better not to feed. The virus is also transmitted during the incubation period, which is 4 to 8 weeks.

Hep C is a blood borne virus; transmitted blood to blood. It cannot be transmitted through breast milk. Check the CDC website; it is not listed as a transmission risk factor.
