I lifted his tail and it was caked with poop and his rectum looked red and protruded. I have given him 3 baths with an oatmeal medicated soap I purchased last year (he is prone to dry skin). He is now moving around on his bottom like it is itching him. Two days ago he would not eat, and his stomach was making all kinds of noises. He ate yesterday and seemed fine. He was angry with me tonight for all the bathing but happily ate his dinner. Do you think this requires a vet visit? I have pet hydrocortisone spray that I was considering spraying the area with. Any ideas on what this could be or remedies you might have tried?

some dogs need to have the hair round their bottom kept cut short so they won`t have that problem.

The bottom rubbing is a sign of worms. but it could also just be irritated from the bathing and the dried feces. I wouldn't spray the area with anything. If anything put some hydrocortisone cream on it or vaseline just to keep it from getting too raw. I would get him checked by the vet. At least have a stool check. If it is worms they will give him medicine and the trouble will be over. Or maybe he ate something that didn't agree with him either.

Yes, a vet visit will be necessary. My dog had poop caked in his tail too. It's called tail fold pyoderma. If you don't get it taken care of, it will begin to exert a foul odor. And believe me, it stinks! To this day, I have to clean out his tail using baby wipes and a solution the vet gave me. Your dog will probably have to be put on antibiotics too since there may be an infection in the tail.

The upset stomach, scooting etc could be tied into the possibility of your dog having an infection. Definitely get it checked out by a pro.

Hope this helps...Good Luck!

Sometimes dogs and some cats eat things that they shouldn't and it gets caught up when they try to go poop. It could be that is what is going on with your dog. A visit to the vet would be a good idea to rule out any adverse complications.

I had a similar problem with my cat who got out and ate something that irritated his digestive tract. He ended up on a round of antibiotics and is fine, but he also likes to eat string and paper. He usually barfs up the paper but string has gone through

It sounds like he may have worms. When they eat a flea off of their body the eggs hatch and become worms. It will cause them to have gas, which would explain the stomach noises, and can cause pooping problems. It could also be that his food has disagreed with him. You can give dogs rice when they have an upset stomach to sooth the stomach, but it won't help if he has worms. I would suggest a vet visit for sure.

YES, you will have to undoubtedly take your puppy to the vet, he might have to have his anal glands expressed. I have no idea an excessive amount of approximately this situation, nevertheless it on occasion occurs randomly and there is not whatever you'll be able to do to restrict or see it coming so far as I realize. The glands across the puppy's anus grow to be clogged and swollen or blocked and the vet have got to specific the glands and unencumber the stress. The equal factor occurred to my Siberian Husky. They will supply your puppy antibiotics, i feel, it is been awhile so I do not bear in mind too good, and ointment and have compatibility him/her with a collar so your puppy can not lick there. Don't wait or the drawback might grow to be extra critical and require surgical procedure.

You probably might want to take him to the vet because having an upset stomach and having diarrhea are not symptoms of dry skin.. he might have eaten something or another to make him sick. If you can't get to the vet soon I suggest just calling your vet and asking him (or her) what you need to do. I hope your dog gets to feeling better soon!

First of all...YES!! Get him to a vet ASAP. In the meantime if he is constipated you can feed him some pumpkin (it is a natural laxative) to help him with bowl movements until the vet can see him. It does sound like anal glands and might require them to be cleaned out. Good Luck!!

I just went thru the same thing with my dog. Although he wouldn't let me get the poo off enough and was trying to wipe his butt on anything and yes it was disgusting. Therefore I did have to take him to a dog groomer, which I thoroughly trust, so that I could get everything under control and it seems now that he is very happy being "pretty". Also my dog hadn't been eating because he kept trying to clean himself and was eating his own stuff. I guess it was my fault for not taking better care of him. Good Luck with your doggie.

He probably needs his anal glands expressed at the groomer or vet or do it yourself, its gross and stinks BAD. Or he could have worms or an infection or anything for that matter. In any case, take him to the vet as soon as possible.
