Puerto Rico is a common wealth. It is an island in the Caribbean. We use American money but we do not vote for the president of the USA. We elect someone to represent us in Washington. We have one governor and the 78 municipalities each have a mayor. We vote every four years like in the States. Starting November 15 we will start to pay sales tax (7%).

Puerto Rico belongs to the U.S in the fact that if you are born there u r an american citizen, but its not a state of the U.S...they have their own president and own rules..Which means you dont pay taxes over there...Its a commonwealth.

Yes & no. PR is considered a territory of the United States, but not officially a State. This means, you are born a US Citizen automatically if you are born there, but don't have to pay Federal taxes, etc. PR was also an inexpensive place for US companies to open factories, etc. and get great tax breaks. Beneficial for both PR and the US.
