The parts that reflect the golden rule.
My question is still up 29 minutes. Amazing. They are doing it because I am timing them.

Serj,
Only the parts that you learned.
That was not a very deep answer, but haven't you alre3ady made the choice which part you want to know, and the parts you want to ignore? That's even if you've looked into it and studied it.
What many people are lacking is a pastor / teacher who knows the Bible well.
The part of the Bible you are supposed to follow are those that are promises from God. And you are to trust those words more than the circumstances that you are facing.
Being Christian, if that's what you want to be, means that you trust God to provide you with the righteousness that Jesus delivered to us. The trust that we have in God, are written in the Bible. Not the pursuit of a perfection that eludes us, but by faith we are saved, through grace.

Wow, this question has a really complicated answer.
Technically, although the Old Testament contains a lot of history, Christians don't HAVE to follow all of it. For example, Christians don't have to stone someone if they do something wrong, and they don't have to follow the restrictions on clothing (not wearing clothes made from different materials, for example), or on food.
The Jews were supposed to be released from much of that once the Covenant (Jesus's purpose) was fulfilled.
The New Testament really lays it out. It clarifies which things are still sins (homosexuality, lying, stealing, sexual immorality, idolatry, et cetera)(hey, I didn't make the rules!), and which things are not (eating pork or shellfish).
Jesus Himself clarifies which laws a Christian is supposed to follow.
That's how you know.

To only follow certain parts of the bible would be to consider the whole thing void. If you only follow some parts of it and not all, it would be like saying that Jesus didnt rise from the dead. If THAT were so, then all of the things we know about Christ would not be true. Therefore, you accept all things for TRUTH, or all for non-sense. I for one choose truth, and if you have any further questions, feel free to e-mail me. May the Lord Bless You Abundantly!!!

The whole Bible is God's word. It is instruction for our lives.Ask Jesus Christ into your heart my friend and you will know, the Lord will show you. He is the wonderful counselor. Read Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born. Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon his shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful,Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Have you asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins, and be your saviour? He loves you.

You follow what has not been corrupted and what has been confirmed. The proof for this is
[002.041] And believe in what I have sent down (this Qur'ân), confirming that which is with you [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injîl (Gospel)], and be not the first to disbelieve therein, and buy (get) not with My Verses [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injîl (Gospel)] a small price (i.e. getting a small gain by selling My Verses), and fear Me and Me Alone. (Tafsir At-Tabarî)
[002.042] And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth [i.e. Muhammad [sal-Allâhu 'alayhi wa sallam] is Allâh's Messenger and his qualities are written in your Scriptures, the Taurât (Torah) and the Injîl (Gospel)] while you know (the truth).
I hope you get guided to the straight path.

how about this- have a look through the bible and only follow the concepts laid down where god is talking DIRECTLY to a person in the bible. It really makes for quite a screwed up belief system if you try that.

Once Jesus died for us, many of the covenants & rules of the old testament became unnecessary. If you stick with Jesus' teachings & the 10 Commandments, you are kicking butt. But remember, if you mess up, forgiveness is the main thing gift Jesus gave to us! Good luck on your journey!

The golden rule....you say it's not in the Bible? Do unto others as you'd have done to you. Jesus said to love God with all your heart and soul. And, then, love your neighbor with all your heart and soul. However, I believe if you love God with all your heart and soul, you are also loving your neighbor. The reverse is true, also, if you are loving your neighbors, you are loving God. Even if you don't believe in God, both of these "commandments" are the golden rule. No?
