i feel bad for that dog, and i hope KatH's friend NEVER gets another dog, moreover i hope KatH never gets a dog either. what ignorance!

Chihuahuas are absolutely the best dogs in the world. I have known, owned, and loved Chihuahuas for most of my life. I have also owned lots of other breeds of all sizes and by far the chihuahua is just the best. I cannot imagine my life without these wonderful little dogs. They require little exercise. They can usually get enough of that running around the house, jumping on and off the furniture. They love to play in the yard if you have a nice fenced one where they can run and play. They are easily trained, very smart little dogs. They do have a stubborn streak which will often make them want to do things their way, not your way. They require very little food. Can be pretty picky. If you ever get them started on people food, forget the dog food, they will refuse to eat it. Very little grooming on a smooth coat. Once a week brushing is about all they need. Once a day brushing with the long cotas. A bath once a month. their nails can grow really quickly and some of them will have a fit over nail trimming. They are the most loving, loyal companion dog, love to be with their masters, on your lap, shoulder, beside you on the chair, sleep with you. When you go from room to room they will usually follow you around. They do bark, but with small dogs it is a defense mechanism, I mean really what else do they have? LOL... People who always thought they didn't like chihuahuas and finally get one, always wondered how they managed to get thru life so long without one of these adorable companions. They need little exercise, they can get enough from running around an apartment. They are very smart, but stubborn, but for the most part very trainable. They obey as any dog would, depending on how well the owner is trained, lol. I feed my chis dry low fat eucanuba, they tend to become overweight easily since they are so small and spoiled. They can be fed on demand with dry food, or twice a day, being so small they need something in their tummies more than once a day. The short haired ones dont require as much grooming as the long haired ones, although the short hairs tend to shed more. I have long haired ones and bathe them every month and brush them weekly, they love it. They are pretty high strung, terrier type temperaments, very excitable and scare easily, not good with kids or strangers. Most are known to bark alot. I have one barker who is male, the female doesnt bark at all, I dont think she knows how, lol. She just whimpers occasionally for attention or at loud noises or growls at play or grunts when annoyed or is TRYING to bark. All in all, if you are a single woman who loves dogs, spend alot of time at home, like the elderly do since these dogs need LOTS of attention and if you dont have kids or alot of visitors, this type of dog is probably for you. They are cuddly stuffed animals who breathe , are warm and need lots of tender loving care. For me, I find nothing bad about them , except maybe that my older one can be nasty once in a while (he hates men and strangers) and barks too much for no reason at all. He is quite jealous and possessive of me. My younger female baby, she is 2 can practically do no wrong, except that she is a little retarded I think , licks way too much and is a bed hog, she thinks she is queen and can take up an entire king size bed. Hope that answers your questions.

My friend had a chiahuahua...although they are REALLY cute, they aren't really smart, and they're only there because their cute. My friend, after about 5 months, had enough of chihuahuas and gave it to her cousin's daughter.
