If you read my previous question, then here's a follow-up.

Like for example right now, a person came in and she started to help them look for a book (we're Librarians at a Public Library). And she asked me what Dewey Decimal Classification would it fall under, I said I "Fiction" and then she slowly walks away pretending that she is looking for some information, and leaves the person standing there, expecting me to help them (which I had no choice) and the gentleman says to me "Geesh, she was helpful!" (sarcastically).

I think you should tell her you don't know or pretend you don't hear when she pulls crap like that. Or call her out in front of the customer she's trying to pawn off on you.

Don't do her job for her. If she gets publicly embarrassed a few times she'll either learn to do her job or find another one. The first time take her aside and explain that when she has a client, the client comes first, she can't leave him standing. Put it in rules and regulations type terms. If she does this again call to her loudly, "Excuse me, are you looking for this client's information?" If she says "Yes." Then inform her you'll be doing other work and walk away. If she says that she has some other task then firmly remind her that she needs to attend to the client first.

The answer is, YOU DON'T. Not because it isn't the right thing to do, but because it will not do anything at all. Your coworker is determined to not do anything. Whatever you say will have no effects what-so-ever.

You could talk to your supervisor or manager, but you really can't do anything to change the situation. (other than making it worse for you)

You missed an excellent opportunity to ask her to come back, point out what she had just done and tell her that is what is upsetting you.

What is the worst thing she can do to you? Don't be afraid to speak up. Keeping it in will only erode your self-esteem and give you ulcers.

Maybe she does not know her dewey decimal system, and is just trying to avoid letting on.

Tell her that you heard your bosses talking about her and how she is lazy and never does anything. this is how i handled it once. she'll start doing her wrk if she thinks she might get fired. maybe even do some of ur wrk to show efficency.
