How about being geniune first and foremost, cos girls well most can suss out phoney's who are after only one thing...
Starting a conversation is a start without being crude, asking her questions whilst listening about herself and dislikes ,likes etc..
Then some info about what you like to do etc is a start....

Just be youself and tell her she looks nice if that doesn't work talk to a girl in one of your classes.

Be honest with her. Don't spit any sad pick up lines to her, just be sincere. Let her know your intentions, what you would like out of the situation, and be firm and confident with it. That should be successfull.
