There are no permanent human residents and Antarctica has never had an indigenous population. Only cold-adapted plants and animals survive there, including penguins, fur seals, mosses, lichens, and many types of algae.

It is true there was no indigenous population of Antarctica. However people do live there. I've spent almost 4 years out of the last 11 in Antarctica. I consider this living there, and there are many people who have spent more time there than me.

But it is a place where we are completely dependent on support from the outside world. We have to have fuel for heat, and food to eat. There is no water in liquid food, and fuel has to be burnt to just get water. You have to stay warm. It is very different to anywhere else.
