Depending on the brand of PC you should be able to make a "Recovery" CD or DVD
It's not exactly a "copy of xp" but it will load your computer back to factory defaults if your hard-drive ever crashes

If you PAID for a installation of XP, then you must have a licence. If you dont have a licence (or that little sticker stuck on the side of your case) then you are not entitled to a copy of the cd, or the software itself.
To play it safe ask your computer distributor. If you have a HP/Dell/Gateway pc, you may have a recovery partition instead, but you will still have that sticker.
In short talk to your IT guy - you may be running an illegal copy (like half the world) or he may have just not given you the cd that you have paid for (legal action taken here, or ring Microsoft and let them handle it - they love suing people)

I assume it was pre-loaded with XP and has a CD burner.
If so, then READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL!
What you need is on the HD and you need to MAKE the "restore" set yourself.
THIS should be the FIRST thing you do, AFTER reading the manual!!!!!!!!
If it was NOT pre-loaded with an OS, then you get to BUY the one you want!

If your new computer came with windows xp loaded ...don't worry it's always there...just use a complete system restore if you need it reinstalled and then do the updates again.

I did, too, but mine was from Dell. Call customer service and request your restore disk, as well as an application disk and a utilities disk. You will need all three to restore your computer if you come across any problems, such as viruses you can't get rid of. They will only send you what you ask for, so be sure to ask for all you need. It's free.
