It never worked for my cats. The stuff the vet has is really good and he can even help you get the meds in them (really hard to do). Also, he can give the right amount for your cat's weight.

I would not recommend using an OTC medication. Also, if there is an allergic reaction, you are right there at the vet (if you bring your cat in and have it administered there) and they can do what they have to do to save her (fluids, Diphenhydramine injection, monitoring, etc.).
Praziquantel is the name of the medication used in Droncit, that is what most vets prescribe. The usual dose of praziquantel for cats and kittens over 6 weeks old is under 4 lbs give ½ tab, 5-11lbs give 1 tab, over 11 lbs give 1 ½ tab. The tablets may be crumbled and mixed with food. Fasting is not necessary.
If you are going to use an OTC med, be sure you are there to watch the cat for the next 12-24 hours. Watch for excessive salivating and diarrhea. Lethargy, shaking, seizures, any of these symptoms, rush to a vet ASAP.
Also, be sure to treat the home and all pets for fleas and clean the stool up right away to prevent re-infestation and always, always, always wash your hands!

Please listen to wildmedic. There are a number of parasitic worms that your cat could have, each has its special medication. So you could be dosing your cat with poison and still not solve the worm problem.
The over the counter medications available to you are ones deemed not effective or harmful by the veterinary community. This is why the "doctor" is necessary for the safety of your cat.
You cannot buy antibiotic over the counter because the use and dosage needs to be determined by a medical specialist. It should be illegal to sell these medications for animals when many pets die because they are used improperly.

It is best that you purchase something from the vet. Stuff sold over the counter can be very painful because of how the medicine works, especially if the pet is elderly. Sometimes it can kill your pet. Be safe, take him to your vet or ask your vet what you should use.

Yes. You may have to dose a second time, but it's safe.

I haven't seen any. You'll probably have to visit your Vet.
