Bird flu has to mutate into a disease that can spread from human to human before that can happen. Right now it has only gone from birds to humans who have VERY close contact with those birds. (Handling dead bodies of infected birds)
If it does mutate to a form that can be spread among humas, then it is hard to say how dangerous it could be.

In all likelihood, no.
I'm surprised an organization as serious as the WHO has fallen into the bird flu media frenzy. It's one of those diseases, like West Nile virus, that may in the future mutate and be something really dangerous for a lot of people, but that's highly unlikely.
What's really strange about this is that they're going to take tons of resources and use them on those probable problems, when we have real problems, like AIDS, which we know are an epidemic.
The next epidemic could come from anything. There's really little way of predicting if a virus will mutate and how.

It seems to be a bit of a long shot nowadays, we got MRSA and other more recently man made stuff going around that we should be worried about. Up here we got a new treatment resistant strain of tuberculosis spreading from Russia, and at the same time our government is sparing money on kids`s vaccinations. So, if you have a little patience we at the old world will get you something special for xmas. Don`t blame the birds.

medical learn teach that ultimately yet another enormous outbreak of the flu will ought to hit and it will kill many human beings. the great question remains precisely what share and while? The figures that they provide are an estimate. Their estimate relies upon the certainty that some human beings do no longer fall ill as in lots of cases as persons and would possibly no longer finally end up contracting the flu. i'm unsure of the exaclt wellness outcomes yet think of of the black plague case in point. human beings in the time of that factor unfold the ailment via coughing on persons and had purple boils or stuff on their dermis. info factors to apply having a great outbreak approximately each and every maximum of years (I forget the suitable determine). We curiously are long previous due yet another outbreak. additionally as our worldwide maintains to get greater populated so the illnesses will proceed to get greater suitable and greater resistent to any drugs we take. Take observe of this via finding out the penicillin you at the instant take for the flu. It was once 50 mil or so yet that has doubled in potential. additionally sometimes you're given a non penicillin medicie because of the fact the flu you obtain is resistent to it. Penicillin is between the few great drugs we've been given and quickly we wont be waiting to take it anymore.

The answer is maybe.
IF the virus mutates into a human-to-human mode of transportation then it is likely to kill millions.
IF a vaccine is not developed.
IF it does not respond well to Tamiflu et al.
IF we don't take drastic measures to prevent the spread.
The virus in 1918 is a good example of history showing that a pandemic can happen. The question is when, H5N1 may not be the one that does it, but when it comes to virus infections we are sorely unequipped to handle any major outbreak.

i read an article interviewing a viralist - he developed the original flu vaccine - he says we are due for a major pandemic, that history repeats itself and the last one was 1918 and also a strain of bird flu - i read this in the AARP magazine a month or two ago.

I watched Horizon tonight on BBC2, "Birdflu pandemic" These people were not being panic merchants, they were stating what will happen comparing it to the 1918 outbreak. Although only about 140 people worldwide have died from it so far, this is the same amount who died in1917 but one year later it was millions.
this flu virus attacked the young and healthy also, not only the weak and vulnerable groups
I hope it doesnt happen though

Absolutely not! It is just yet another scaremongering tactic employed by "high quality publications" (need i point out the sarcasm) such as the Daily Record, The Sun etc.
According to them, every week there is something new that will threaten to wipe out human life. Well, in the UK at least.
In summary, dont listen to any of their rubbish.
