well rubbing alcohol stings so badly because it is reacting to your body's blood and other chemicals...i don't know why you would be using rubbing alcohol on a cut...you would normally use hydrogen peroxide...i recently read that you shouldn't use rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide on cuts and scrapes because although it kills the bacteria and cleans the wound...it also kills the tissues and good bacteria that your body posseses...if you have to clean a cut use a mild soap and warm water to clean out the wound...dry it throughly and then apply a band aid...you may choose to put neosporin on your cut to help minimize scarring...

Betadine works better than alcohol and does not sting. You can pour it full strength on an open wound. Can buy it at drugstore. It costs more than alcohol, and will also stain your skin It absorbs through the skin though, how fast depending on the condition of your thyroid.

It stings because alcohol is a toxic irritant, but it does far more damage than water, so it's disinfecting benefits are more than cancelled by its local cellular damage.
