I'm a little scared of telling them about it because I don't know what they'll think. They're wondering why I draw X's on my hands, and I'm just really nervous about telling them. I've been StraightEdge since Sept. 21st... and I really want them to know, but I don't know how to say it. How can I without blowing it out of proportion or making it seem too small?
(I did not choose the vegan/vegetarian part because I am unable to. And if you don't know what it is, look it up on Wikipedia)

The best way to tell your parents is to sit down with them and explain your decisions. Let them know how commited you are. Then show them some positive straight edge websites. They may dobut your sincerity at first but will be happy about the postive decisions you are making.

You should be proud to represent straight edge, just explain to your parents whats it all about.
Unless- your crew likes to get in fights.
In my town there is a straight edge crew that likes to hang out at the taco shop (which serves beer on their patio ) and they hang out in a big mob to be intimidating or something, and they talk crap to people that are drinking. I can't figure that one out- why pick an establishment that serves alcohol to be your hangout?

Anyways, it sure beats being a teenaged junkie.

well, they should be happy, no drugs or drinking or smoking or poisoning of the body in any way.. just tell them straight out, what is there to be scared of? they can't get mad that their teenage daughter is'nt going to come home pregnant and high on meth one day.

Just tell them. I think that every parent wishes that their kid didn't do drugs/smoke/have sex, etc. I think that they will be plesantly suprised. I think that is a great lifestyle for young people to have.

What's the problem? There's nothing wrong with being straight edge...it's every parent's dream!
