Give him a toothbrush to play with. Let him see you brushing your teeth and make it a fun & happy time for both of you. Then when he's use to handling the play toothbrush, give him the real one and show him how to brush like a big boy. Make it fun for him & just do short episodes. Don't force him.'

Don't worry, we all have same problem with toddlers. Why not try doing a stat chart and given him a sticker every time he brushes his teeth. When he realises that he does not get one when he doesn't he will soon be running to brush his teeth. Anyway is he chews on the toothbrush his giving them a clean anyway.

Get him a small mirror, let him choose a new toothbrush, and one for yourself. Squat down to his level, and give him the toothbrush and hold the mirror in front of you both, brush your teeth, make funny faces, get him to do his own, then here comes the magic part..... SWAP! he would love to do your teeth, and in return you get to give his a good brushing! You can get toothbrushes that have a light on, and the light goes out after one minute or so, then the child knows how long to brush for.

Good Luck!

Let him brush them himself for a couple of minutes and then ask him if you can have a shot after him .You have to try explain too him that if they don`t get cleaned properly he will get sore teeth etc and need to go to the dentist . Another thing u could try is maybe sticker rewards like what the dentist gives , its all about encouragement.
Good luck

cj, what planet are you from? You have to brush their teeth as soon as they appear!! Yes, they are going to fall out at some stage but that's no reason to let them decay!
I would give him a toothbrush too and let him attempt to brush them, then you do it properly. Or get him to hold the brush and then you guide him.

Print out a photo of him smiling (that shows his teeth well). Cover the picture with contact paper and let him "practice" brushing on his picture. Keep up the routine, but I don't think you should force him, just brush your own teeth and offer him his toothbrush.

I discovered that part of my son's problem was that his toothbrush was noticeably different than mommy & daddy's. I bought him a soft toothbrush identical to ours and he uses it a lot more.

save attempting. My 13 month previous twins do no longer consistently % to open their mouths so i'm able to brush their tooth the two, yet we've made it part of the bedtime ritual besides. in the event that they're being puzzling, I only brush my tooth. in many situations they replica me with their own toothbrushes, that's bigger than no longer brushing in any respect. additionally, I now and returned wash their tooth with a infant washcloth. i spotted that in many situations that does an more desirable job than attempting to apply a toothbrush.

Regardless of the fact that baby teeth will fall out they still need brushing as decay that occurs in baby teeth can affect secondary teeth. So it's important that teeth are brushed regularly as soon as they start to appear.

You just have to be firm with him, let him have a go first then you say mummys turn now, put him on your lap hold him around the waist firmly and just brush if he fights you just hold his arms gently around the back with one hand while you brush with other hand worked with both sons and have both got beautiful white teeth they get used to it, its not wicked and then they soon start wanting to do it theirselves when you tell what good boys they are for doing it, just be really enthusiastic when they try it for themself.
