There may be other life in the universe.
It's possible, but in no way statistically PROBABLY. In order to estimate a statistical probability, you need to have more than one sample, and since the only life in the universe we are certain of is our own, we can't possibly make an accurate projection. Anyone who says the "odds" are that there is life elsewhere does not understand mathematics.
It's very APPEALING to think there is alien life out there in the universe. We know how vast the universe is, and we know that there are many stars with planets that are probably earth like. Soon we may even be able to detect whether those planets have water on them. If they do have water, the likelihood that they COULD have life increases drastically, but it still won't PROVE anything.
It's discouraging to think that in a universe with billions of stars and even more planets, that we would be the only form of life, but the truth is, WE JUST DON'T KNOW.
If there are aliens, you can rest assured one thing. If they have the technology to cross interstellar space, they are ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE more advanced than human beings. An intelligence possessing such a power would probably never bother to look twice at brutish, primitive humans, who would be as far beneath them as slugs are beneath us.
The idea that they would come millions of light years to frighten the Egyptians, make crop circles, confound our radar, occasionally crash, and abduct people to perform silly medical experiments, is the most laughably preposterous thing I've ever heard.

I believe in aliens. I also believe in extra-terrestrial intellegance. I believe that these aliens are capable of advanced space flight. The reason I believe in aliens is becuase so far they have been smart enough to stay away from our self destructive planet. Those aliens that came close to us would stop, take a quick look around, and then leave in a darn hurry. Look into any sighting of aliens you want, it has always been the case.

In a nationwide poll,an overwhelming majority of Americans believe in aliens,(I'll assume we are talking about the outer space kind and not the illegal kind).
That answers part one of your question, part two is a bit harder.
My own belief as to WHY a majority of Americans believe in aliens is two part.Better informed people will look at the sheer numbers of stars (and possible planetary systems)and conclude that odds are we are not alone. Those with a more dogmatic approach to life ,probably look to heavens with a sort of "savior syndrome".Somebody out there will come down and save us poor humans from ourselves. The truth?Well who knows?Traveling the unimaginable distances to even the nearest stars requires resources and technology far beyond what we can even imagine
at this point in our infant human evolution.
I should mention the possibility of interdemensional travel.Well,
that just opens up another can of worm(holes) doesn't it.?
But its an interesting question none the less.

I do, and the reason is, there are how many planets in the universe, I do not believe that earth is the only planet with life on it. We go out in the universe exploring other planets, whos to say that species from other planets are not exploring earth as well. I believe in aliens, most definately, and I think what people think they look like, may well be true, and they look that way because they have adapted to their planets atmosphere. Just my humble opinion.

Of course there are aliens out there. I'm not sure they've visited our planet, but sheer numbers (based on the estimated number of stars, solar systems, and planets our vast universe contains) dictate that there is other intelligent life in the universe.

I believe in aliens. Because it is highly unlike that in this universe without an end there are only earthlings!

I do. I refuse to believe that in all the hundreds of thousands of billions of planets out there, there can't be another one with life on it. Now, whether those life forms have come here is an entirely different question.

Because of the pure size of the cosmos it would be mathematically impossible for aliens not to exist. So I believe they are out there somewhere.
