Why would people benefit from having this skill? What are the consequences of not having this skill?

You know how not many people can master something, but only a select few can. What are some of those things?

I know this is a homework question but I still find it interesting so I'll answer anyway. Critical thinking is something that most people lack but could benefit from. In other words, being able to look at a situation and see the implications and consequences of it. It's being able to read something and look below the surface, make judgements and apply it to other information in a useful way.

Financial planning.

People would be better able to determine that they should spend the money that they do have wisely, and to refrain from borrowing money unless there's going to be a good future return on it.

People who do not have this skill overspend, and spend money in ways that are not good investments.

Carpentry skills. Some people have the ability to learn it so easily and it is just natural. Trust me... you do not want me driving a nail into your wall! :o)

public speaking

It is very hard for most, but if you can master it can pay off very well in your career. If you can't master it is can hold you back.
