In first aid, we're told never to induce vomiting. This is because often a poison that has been swallowed will burn the throat on the way down, and it'll burn it again on the way back up, but this time it'll be mixed with stomach acid and make it worse.

The burn would cause swelling in the throat area which could be serious enough to compress the windpipe so the casualty could not breathe.

If a poison has been swallowed, call for an ambulance and get hold of the container the poison came from if possible.

If it's another form of poisoning, such as a snake bite or from a poisonous plant, just get them to hospital. If you're able to tell the hospital the name of the plant or the snake then they will be able to treat appropriately.

Always call poison control first and have a bottle of ipecac on hand, in case it is something that they say can be vomited up. If it a chemical substance like drano, do not vomit, go to the hospital!!!

I guess if your sitting at this time of night asking these questions ,your assessor is coming to see you tomorrow and you need to have this done for her/him.
Again if your not sure Lynsey ask your assessor, they should be your first line of support when doing your nvq.
