Ok, so im in highschool...and for past year ive been anxious and getting more and more depressed, so before it got worse my neuorogist put me on lexapro. I really dont want to have bad side effects, and i was wondering if when im in class...i will get any side effects on this drug that will embarras me? Im known as the "outgoing" funny kid, who loves to have a good time. No one will ever expect me to be on an anti-depressant (so im not tellin anyone), but will this effect my classroom studies and my friendships etc? Like will i start feeling sick in class, etc? Please help..when is the best time to take this medicine? I just took it now at 6:00 pm before we eat dinner (going to see if i get insomnia, if i do i will take in morning)...i also woke up at 4 in the morning last night with a mild headache which wouldnt go away (not a throbbing headache) : (I also have a soar throat right now..not related to lexapro...could be allergic which my headace could also be allergic)....please help.

Lexapro is the "miracle drug"..It has no side effects and starts to work in 5 or 6 days..most of them take 6 weeks. It made me stay awake at night. If you were allergic to lexapro, you would break out in hives and have trouble breathing. You may be getting the flu or something which is the cause of the H/A and sore throat...If you wish to know more, feel free to e-mail me

I've been on lexapro for over a year, and it's really helped my anxiety. I've had no side effects. Your body may adjust to it in the begining, (maybe a little dizzyness or something) but it will help you. I take mine at dinner time becuase it was making me tired when I first started taking it. Now it's just a habit to take it at dinner. After about three months I was feeling very anxious again and asked my dr to up the dosage, and I've been fine with that dosage for about 11 months. It will take 2-6 weeks for the levels in your body to get to where they need to be to feel relief from the anxiety/depression. No one will notice that you are on the medicine, nothing will happen in class, etc. If it effects your friendships, it will probably be in a positive way--after I was on the drug for a few months people commented on how happy and calm I was. Relax, keep taking the meds at the same time every day, and little by little you'll start to feel better. Good luck :)

Hey I'm a guy on Lexapro. You have to give your body a little time to get used to it, and you won't really have any side effects.
Don't worry about the little things, like anxiety, when you are getting used to the medication. It will help you, but when I read your question, I could tell that you are a person who is prone to anxiety. Calm down, man. You are on a good medication and those feelings of anxiety will chill, give them a chance to do that.

I was on Lexapro about 2 years ago. For me it wasn't right, but for you it could be much different. With me it changed my sleep patterns, made me tired and lethargic, and caused drastic weight gain. Some people don't see any of these symptoms. Just stick with it, it will take awhile for your body to adjust to the meds. Once you've gotten to that point, then it would be the time to decide whether it is the best option for you.
Good Luck!
