You can still see the channel but the middle of the screen is just black any help

That may be your picture-in-picture that has been activated.
You will need another tuner to get video in that box.
Find your PIP and turn it off. See your owner's
manual for your television set.

I don't think it's the picture tube. My neighbor asked me for help with a problem that sounded identical to this. It turned out to be a data display setting (similar to close captioning), when this setting is turned on, it displays a large black square that will sometimes disappear a few seconds after changing the channel, but other times would not. If you can locate the close caption / data display setting and turn this off it may fix your problem.

your tube is gone. You can get it fixed mbut it is easier and cheaper to but a new one
