There are a group called The Company of 1492. Can't find the number tho. Just Google "Archery Club Longbow"

Hi

Depends on what sort of longbow archery you are after - as there are 2 main sorts

1. Target archery - where you shoot at either an upright target or a small marker flag (clout shooting). Or you can also do Field Target archery where the target is a 2 or 3 dimensional representation of an animal of some sort.
Here you will be using a bow of about 40-pound draw weight.
For clubs try :
British Long-Bow Society http://www.askarts.co.uk/longbow.html
National Field Archery Society http://www.nfas.net

2. Traditional longbow - ie. WARBOW
This is where you shoot a bow of about 90-pound to 120-pound draw weight, then upwards from there. Most bows here are based on original surviving medieval military bows - the object being purely the enjoyment & study of the Longbow. See the website - http://www.englishwarbow.com/

Good luck with finding a club in your area. I suggest doing some background reading first on the longbow, and see what ideas you get from the websites & the links they have. Theres a good bookshop for archery books - Dyfi Valley Books in Wales; I use them quite a lot

Most archers shoot recurve and a few are on compound bows.
But I'm a polished stick man myself with pine-shafted arrows and goose fletchings.
It's pretty crude compared to the high-tech stuff and not nearly as accurate but I enjoy the longbow much more than the other two, which I sold.
I don't go to a club now and just plug away in a field.
A club would give you the basics but I've always found them short on fun (I know, it's potentially dangerous) so I shoot alone on sunny days.
Clubs tend to compete a lot and I can't be bothered with that.
Maybe you'll like it though.
Search through GNAS for a club and have fun!
Oh, EBAY has some very cheap longbows in oak and ash, maybe fifty quid.
Not the best but they're not rubbish.

If you are looking for information on longbow I suggest you go to: www.sca.org and track down your local group. About half the archers is the SCA (medieval society) shoot longbow and are generally more than willing to teach.
