all wars are because of religion.

if there was no religion there would be more of a peace society.

obviously everyone would go nuts about not believing in a afterlife but since there isnt one anyways whats the difference.

so do you think if there was no religion it would be a better world.

I DO THINK THAT RELIGION IS THE CAUSE OF NEARLY ALL THE WARS.YOU ARE MISTAKEN WHEN YOU SAY THAT THERE WOULD BE NO AFTER LIFE. JUST BECAUSE OF THERE BEING NO RELIGION. THE THOUGHT OF AN AFTER LIFE IS THERE EVEN WITHOUT RELIGION. BECAUSE OF EXPERIENCES OF NON BELIEVERS AS WELL AS PEOPLE WHO HAVE A RELIGION. PEOPLE FIGHT ABOUT OTHER THINGS AS WELL AS RELIGION. SO WHO KNOWS IF IT WOULD BE A BETTER WORLD?

I think it would be better if everyone obeyed Jehovah God and the commandments that He set forth in the Bible. Yes, there are wars that are said to be fought in the name of religion, but the ones starting these wars, and those supporting them by engaging in warfare, are from all kinds of religion. But, can you think of the only religion that *doesn't* participate in war?

You're right. There is no afterlife...i'm not "going nuts" though. The Bible doesn't teach that there is an afterlife. It teaches that the earth will be turned back into it's original state...paradise.

Do I think that if there was no religion it would be a better world?
No. I think that everyone needs to live their lives in accord with the Bible. That's the *only* way we'll ever see lasting peace.

Religion doesn't cause wars, people do.

Why would a peaceful society be any better? Such a society could only exist if there were not any opposition. Thus, everyone must be uniform in their thoughts, values, and philosophies. Toleration must be dictated. Freedom is lost. Our founding fathers found such philosophies abhorrent. "Give me liberty or give me death!" comes to mind.

There will always be philosophies as long as there are men. Religion is the philosophy of men. It is the explanation for that which is unexplainable. It is one of the greatest hopes for mankind beyond death. Our philosophies clash at times but our philosophies also unite at times. The faith of millions has played a role in many wars, but it has also played a role in times of peace.

Religion has had an important role in the survival of mankind. It has given him hope to stand up and endure the seemingly impossible trials of life that he faced. If there were no religion, there would be no hope for an afterlife. There would be no God. Thus there could be no law since there is no authority given. There could be no right and wrong. There could be no good nor evil. Thus what is to motivate a man to stand up and defend his country? All will become cowardly in their selfish fear of death and the country will become weak and defenseless as few will be willing to make the sacrifice or stand up against evil. Selfishness will abound and Godless anarchy will rule until a miracle happens and a man is inspired and is willing to take a stand and make believers of the world again...

If there is no religion, there are no philosophies. If there are no philosophies there are no men. If there are no men, there are no women. If there are no women, why even get up in the morning? It would definitely NOT be a better world.

The fact is, men and women DO exist. They are not all-knowing and thus will always have philosophies, whether they be from God or from the absence of God. Thus the philosophies of men and God will always exist until we kill each other, which will bring the greatest peace the world has seen since...Adam?

And who would care? Since... there is no God anyway

I think religion is destroying the human race. Too many religions causing too much conflict and confusion. For those that don't have a religion, they are criticised. Those that do are also criticised for having a different religion and for believing in the first place !! It's a never ending circle - the world would be a better place if everyone just accepted every elses views and opinions.

Wars are not waged because of religion, but because the evilness in the hearts of many humans. There are very few, if any, religions that advocate war. Thus, a better question would be, "Do you think that if people followed their religion, would the human race still be destroying itself."
All wars are fought over power, some use God as a reason to go to war, to gain more power, but it is just a reason to fulfill their own evil needs, it has nothing to do with the actual religion itself.
Atheists would do well to understand that things done in the name of religion and religion itself are very different. Terrible things have been done in the name of science, but should we advocate getting rid of it? True science leads to mans elevation, just as true religion.

I do agree that religion causes 99% of the worlds problems , and that its a path for the weak and unsure to follow , but if they didnt follow that path they would follow another, its their nature.

The biggest problem is over population , they are rapidy out growing this planet.

Just think what a world it would be if 80% of the population died only leaving , the most intelegent, the most beautiful, the most creative , a bit like noahs ark , steamlineing society.

We have been here thousands of years studying our brothers and sisters, Thousand and thousands of records on human behaviour.

And why do governments make so many mistakes, do so many crazy things ,

The answer is they dont !

Look through your own eyes ,not someone elses.

Well as religion is man made, and man is doing a good job of killing everything then yes, it's a shame because the thought behind religion was to spread the word of God, but now it just uses him name to control man kind, and for some to kill in his name.
As far as being a better world, yes, and no if religion was for what it was intended then no it would not be a better world without it, but as it is then get rid of it.
As far as the afterlife goes, well you don't need religion for that, and yes there is such a place, all you need is faith in yourself, and God.
Wars are because of religion, again yes and no, the true meaning of religion then no, but as man has used it the way he has then yes, man is foolish enough to believe he can kill in God's name.

Love & Peace

Nah, I don't believe that religion is destroying the human race. People are. I don't believe it would be a nicer place because there would be no guidelines to live by. I do believe that Ignorance destroys the human race. What if there was a God, and you spread that there isn't? Will you be judged? If there wasn't a God, and you believe that then be as you are, but in that slight chance there is.... What will happen to you once your gone? Heaven? Hell?, lake of fire here left with all the rest of the non believers? wow what a place that will be... skeery..

All wars are actually to do with land and human authority. Wars tends to begin when one army invades a foreign land, whatever the reason for the invasion in the first place. Religion is often used as a cloak of respectability, but the rligion that gives credence to human authority for war is false and does not really worship God.

It's not fair to blame it on religion. We human beings are destroying ourselves and must accept collective responsibility.
Regarding your bit about a better world if there were no religion, let me correct your careless comment.
Before the advent of Christianity, during the Greco-Roman era it was common practice and considered ok to nail a person to a cross as penalty for some crimes. How would you like it practised to this day?
Our modern system of justice and the universal rights of men
are based (partly) on the teachings of religious sages who time and time again tell us to treat everyone as we ourselves want to be treated, that is with justice and impartiality.

oh my god yes!

The crusades and persecution of jews are both huge examples.

Maybe its just human nature to believe in some bigger spirit that put you there or to answer the things they wonder. But honestly, when people are coming to your door telling you to convert so you can be with the lord...its gone way to freaking far. I think that everything just kind of needs to backtrack a little bit. I believe that human nature is to believe in something higher and that would remain in every individual. This belief is not religion. Religion is a waste. I think that there is a difference between believing and being religious.

seriously though. People going to a mass for the sake of some gas in the air, or for some guy who died thousands of years ago, or to protect your soul, or based on a book that is completely false and has NO scientific justification whatsoever?
