Well first of all,not to sound rude but some of these answers are uneducated and rude.
From personal experience the Shitzu/poodle is an excellent companion. No they are not a recognized breed by the AKC or CKC,but they ARE recognized by many adoring fans.
Breed is a term to describe ones background.E.G,"Do you know what breeds were used to produce your dog?"Answer."Yes,Shitzu crossed with a poodle".
A dog bred with two purebred parents is called a cross breed, where a dog with a cross bred dam and cross bred sire is a "Mongrel".So no Shi-poos are not muts.
Many "pure bred" dogs today were achieved by cross breeding, the Doberman owes much to the rottweiler and Manchester Terrier. and the long coat of a chihuahau to the Papillon. This is true to many Pure breeds.
As for the Shi-poo,they come in many sizes ranging from 8-18 pounds. They can be extremely friendly to shy and loyal,as for any dog.I know a few that do agility, ride motorcycles, work on farms,go camping, hiking fishing. They can do it all.
They are low maintenance, cheap to feed and love to be loved.

Well, first of all... it's not a "breed". It's a designer dog... which is a (hopefully) ill-fated fad that is going to result in a new surge of mutt dogs inundating local shelters and pounds in a few years when the novelty wears off. By giving what was previously known as a mixed breed, or mutt, a cutesy name like "Labrador", "puggle", "poosh", whatever... irresponsible breeders are simply taking advantage of a newly (and falsely) created market. These dogs have always existed... but by re-naming them to sound cute and desireable, they've created a market in which people are willing to pay even MORE than purebred prices for a mutt. Aside from that, purebreds typically have certain health issues that are common to the breed. A lot of the designer dogs they're making these days are "blessed" with the flaws of BOTH breeds. Since no responsible breeder creates these dogs, it's left up to amateurs and those looking to make a profit... not those who are breeding truly great dogs (by virtue of conformation or health). If you really want one of these designer dogs... do a search for either breed on petfinder.com. Chances are, you'll find several dogs with the same "mix"... only on petfinder they won't have the fancy name.

Not to be rude, but I don't believe it can really be considered a "breed". It's a mix of two different breeds, in this case Shih Tzus and Poodles. Shih Tzus always seem to be very sweet dogs and not terribly large. I've never had great luck with poodles personally, however they are a very popular dog with many many fans. Sorry this isn't much help.

yes, i heard they are very nasty
that is because poodles have a tendency to be overly confidenent and therefor are mean
and also because shitzues are very protectie and are also mean (one bit me twice and i got a scar)
