I mean, religious people believe that they were put on this earth to do something or other. And atheists believe we just can from biological soup (the theories vary but I'm generalizing here). Anyways, does there have to be a point to it all? Does everyone and every action have a purpose?

Of course there is no real definite answer, so I'm just asking for your personal opinion.

You'd be surprised how good it feels when you realize that life has absolutely no point whatsoever, except to make the most of it.

Some questions are better left unanswered. Think about it.

Why are we here?

If there was a goal to life, humans, being the animalistic beings that we are, would fight and kill one another to achieve that goal ahead of one another.

The same goes for what happens when we die. If you knew the answer, it would defeat the reason for living. Why read the mystery when you already know the ending?

In reality, the answer may be the hypothetical I gave in my first question. Humans do fight and kill one another for the purpose of survival, so that may, essentially, be the only reason we exist.

You could also infer certain things by examining the universe. The universe is expanding, but at the same time it's losing energy. Current theory is that the universe will expand as far as it can, and once all the stars have exhausted their fuel, it will exist as a cold, vast emptiness with zero energy. Of course this is just theory, but life often mimics itself on different levels. It would not surprise me if our destiny is simply to temporarily violate thermodynamics until we die.

Personally, I believe there is no point to anything...and that's the point to everything. Everything co-exists and that existence itself depends on the existence of everything else. So really, there's nothing being gained or accomplished...It's like an eternal game of ping pong. Life itself just happens for the sake of happening, but without purpose. Now some of us may have purpose within our own life, and that's a whole different story....

"Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible."
-Viktor Frankl

I think people are ALWAYS trying to find a reason for life, and why we're here.
But we all have a purpose... I think overall, our purpose is just to create the best life we can for ourselves and anyone else we bring into this world, and to help others in the world.

No, it does not need to have a point. But each person may believe his or her own life has a point, has a meaning or even that every life has a point or meaning.

Every action has a consequence. You know it and I know it. The question is then to what purpose. I guess God gives people a purpose otherwise no point to life. We're just running around doing our thing and then we die cannot possibly be the truth.

depending on what you want to get out of it You can cruise along and do whatever seems good to do at the time regardless or you can put more thought to it. Those that make a big effort to harm others for self gain will get "something" out of it and vice versa. Others in betweeen will get whatever effort they put in back. some here in this world and some in the next for those who believe in that part of it. I prefer to have the deeper context of life, but I still enjoy a lighthearted attitude as well. i think we can be braodminded as well as committed to a life with deep meaning, suchas religion/belief in God; offers to many of us.

Possibly...but does the purpose of your life necessarily have to be positive in some way. What if the purpose of your life is to serve as a warning to others?

There is a real definite answer and that answer is yes. Yes, there is a purpose for each action.

Well, it would be better to have a goal. If you didn't, why are you alive on the face of this earth? I mean, why not commit suicide then? So if you have a point, it would definitely help.

your point is?

so the world came from nothing and is gonf to nothing an inbetween we have to find meaning sadnwiched between the nothing??? and you saying maybe that's not important

def would explain alot of depression, no?
as Camu the philosopher said the next serious question would be the question of suicide

but there is a point The main purpose of man is to glorify God and enjoy HIm forever and God is most glorified what I am finding most satisfied in him, being transformed obediently into His image, lovign other.
