Separate them and spread them out, then sprinkle lightly with water. Wait about a half hour before using. Only treat the amount you wish to use this way, the amount the recipe calls for. You can also use apple juice to sprinkle them with if you prefer, as this will aid in bringing out the flavour.

Don't heat the water, apple juice or dates when doing this as doing so lessens the quality of the dates.

My Mother and I always used to put dried dates in scones How about trying that?
