Separate them and spread them out, then sprinkle lightly with water. Wait about a half hour before using. Only treat the amount you wish to use this way, the amount the recipe calls for. You can also use apple juice to sprinkle them with if you prefer, as this will aid in bringing out the flavour.
Don't heat the water, apple juice or dates when doing this as doing so lessens the quality of the dates.

put them in another container and put about a tablespoon of water over them and micro.. for 15 sec. on high.

soak them in water...preferable over night..but even a few hours will help..
