About 3 weeks ago I rescued a golden retriever/terrier mix that was abondoned close to my neighborhood. She was very thin but not starving when I found her because some ppl at a as station close by had been giving her scraps. But, the ppl who abonded her there had abused her so I don't think she's ever had a good steady diet.
She wouldn't eat anything for the first couple days, but then I started getting her to take wet/canned food from me by hand. I started mixing in a top brand dry food with the wet until she would eat the dry on her own.
Now she's eating a small amount of the dry food every day (she has access to plenty but she just won't eat it). But she's been vomiting a couple times a day for the past week or so. Sometimes its just stumach acid, but other times its a bunch of the dry food that looks undigested.
She's been to the vet and has been dewormed. She's about 2 years old and has excellent teeth and no parasites.
She also went into heat (menstrating) about 11 days ago.

She still has worms. Take her to the vet for another deworming. Sometimes when a dog has been neglected like this one and has been out scavaging for a period of time they can get a really bad case of worms. When this accures it will take a series of dewormings to get rid of the worms completely. The vomiting is from the worms. When they have worms the worms attach themselves to the inside of the intestines and the inner lining of the stomach and it causes the dog not to be able to digest their food. This causes the vimiting because the food has to come out somewhere. If the dog isn't able to poop it out because it's not getting properly digested they. will vomit the food back up.And will not gain weight You need to take her back to the vet for more treatment. Also it is possible for a dog to re-infect themselves with worms even after they were just treated. They normaly do this by eating poop which is common for strays to do and it becomes a habit Switch her to dry food only. Can food is full of byproducts and fillers and its not good for the dogs digestive system and teeth. More than likely the reason she wouldn't eat when you first brought her home was for one the worms, and number two, dogs will alot of time take a couple of days to get used to new surroundings. This alot of times causes some stress in the dog and it takes a couple of days to get used to your house and your family. Especialy dogs that have been abused and or neglected. They almost always have little or no trust for humans. So keep taking her to the vet and get here caught up on her dewormings and SHOTS!! She deserves a better life than what she had. She'll love you for it. Good Luck.

My gf adopted a dog that was very nervous. She cooked for the dog for almost a year - ground beef, chicken and rice and supplemented with dry dog food. The meat gravy was poured over the dry dog food to make it more palatable.
If the vet didn't find anything, then I would say that it is just being nervous. Keep treating her kindly and give her small amount of food several times a day. That should help her stop throwing up.

I had a similar problem what I did was give my dog puppy food (higher in fat then adult food.) I would hand feed her. When she didn't want to eat I would pour some Iams savory sauce on it and she would slowly lick it until finally she just ate it. I did this for a little while until her stomach got used to having food in it. Eventually she got better and now she is my beautiful, healthy, chubby baby.

well now at her age she probably wont gain any more weight! at age two most female settle in their correct or close size to their body! but if she is acting healthy then may she is happy on how she feels! also be careful with those abuse cases cause you don't know what was going on in her other family and also don't know what they did to her! it could of been More then just not enough food!!!!! think about that before you get to worrying!
