hello, am planning to travel to the U.K soon and my plan is to rent a car there, just more fun. My problem is: I can find nowhere to apply for an international driving permit to use together with my chinese driving license. so I wonder if i can drive just with my chinese driving license in the U.K? thanks a million.

you can drive any small vehicle eg cars and or motorcycles, shown on your driving licence, for a period of 12 months from the date that you last entered the country, as long as it remains full and valid

You should be all right

If you have a drivers licence from any country you should be able to drive in another (if not they won't rent you a car anyway). But if you plan to stay in the country for any length of time, that's different.

I would suggest however that you review the local driving rules since they will have some differences and you don't want to cause an accident or anything like that.

Have fun and enjoy your time in the UK

According to the DVLA website it looks like you can drive on your own licence for up to 12 months - it doesn't say you have to have an International Driving Permit - maybe send them an email to check, see link:

Definitely check the rules & regulations of the car rental companies though, they have strict guidlines & might require an intl permit/translation of your licence. I would be a shame to get here & find out no-one will give you a car.

Enjoy your trip !!

in case you have a reproduction driving licence issued in China, then you definately can use it right here interior the united kingdom for twelve months from the date you initially entered the united kingdom. NO worldwide driving licence is needed. in spite of the undeniable fact that in case you % tocontinual in France, then in accordance to French regulation which I obtained from the Prefecture, you could desire to have a worldwide driving licence mutually inclusive of your chinese language licence. in case you could no longer acquire an internation driving licence, then you definately can acquire a translation of you driving licence from you embassy into French and English. in case you get pulled over in France and bring the two your chinese language driving licence and the coolest translation, they'll settle for this.

As far as I know you can use your licence in the uk for 1 year but only if you get the chinese embassy to officially translate your licence into english. You could contact Dvla to confirm this.

if you have your international driving licence you can drive for a one year , after that if you want to drive in the uk you have to apply for a uk provisional driving licence than apply to pass the uk driving theory and practical test.to obtain a uk driving licence.
if you return to your country with in one year and come back later the same procedure appllies as above.
