I want to get a tattoo on my lower back. I already have what I want picked out and its meaningful to me. I was just curious as to how bad it will hurt in that area because I have never had a tattoo. I am not interested in hearing anyone's opinion on them and if they are "tramp stamps" or not because I don't care and I know what I want. I just want some advice on what to expect as far as pain and such and for my first one should I start with something small or go ahead and get what I want.

LOL I like the term tramp stamp. Is that really what is is going to say? It will hurt. In the end no one will care about it. No pun intended.

You do have bone back there, bone HURTS!

This is your first, and you can handle pain? Then go for it. If you can not handle pain, and a professional will not let you drink alcohol for it thins your blood. It might be best to try else where on a fattier part of your body first.

I had mine put on my chest where there is bone and this was my first one. The first thing the guy asked is if I could handle pain. He said he has had many of the college kids come in and cry and whine the whole time from the needles, and the blood. I have had chronic pain since young and it really was no big deal, at first. The third hour I was less wanting him working on bones.....

As far as the names out there for tats you are not getting this to show off to your family and friends. You will have this on your body FOREVER (unless you go through another painful procedure to get it removed). So who cares what "those" people say right?

The pain depends on how close bone is to the surface and whether or not its an area with alot of nerve endings. but whatever you do dont go drunk or on anything to lessen the pain because it thins the blood and you will bleed more and increase the chance of scabs. Make sure your tattoo is something that wont embarrass you when your old and your grand kids see it. too many people dont think that far ahead but it does matter. Also ask yourself if its something that is faddish, which *** caps have become over the years, but if you like it that's the most important thing with something so permanent . I have one of my 3 tattoos that I wish I hadn't got. so be sure!

I got a large butterfly in the center of my lower back three years ago. It's my second tattoo. The one on my lower right ab didn't hurt at all, truly. The one on my back. Crazy. While he was doing the outlining I was okay. When he was filling in the right side I was fine. But when he got on the left side of my spine, I thought I was going to put my nails through the chair. I guess my nerves are closer to the skin on that side. But, when it is over, its over. Get what you want the first time, it may hurt, but when you walk out of that tattoo parlor, it will be all worth it.

i want one in the exact same place! the only problem i have is getting it past my family because they say it is a tramp stamp, but if i were u i would just ignore evryone who says that! and if a guy thinks ur easy becuase u have a hott tattoo, them tell them that their head is in there a** :P As 4 the pain, it feels like someone is rubbing sand paper on a cut. but it goes away by the end of the day.

Go for it I say. I have one there and knowing that it hurts more closer to the bone I choose one that is split at my spine. For the most part I fell asleep and awoke when he got close to it. Every location has a different pain experience. Since you have what you want, you know where you want it - just do it. If the pain is too bad ask your artist if they have any gel (I don't remember the name of it but after they do the outline they can rub it on & it will lessen the pain so you can tolerate it more so). My daughter used it when she got hers on her spine - I didn't know they had something like that till then. You can see mine on my ink page for yahoo 360.

Everyone's pain tolerance is different to some degree. I'm guessing thats a pretty painful area to get one. I say if you know what you want, then go for it and get it. As long as you've thought about it, and it sounds like you have. I have a large raven tattooed on my left thigh and it hurt like h-ell. I find lower back tats very sexy on women.

IT HURTS!!! Why does everybody think that by poking your skin with needles in a machine, it might not hurt. Just breathe through it. Keep it clean and do what they tell you to take care of it. I have a pretty big one on my lower back, one on the top of my foot (verrrry painful), one on my ankle that did hit the bone and a teeny one on my toe. It's not that bad, but it does hurt...not as bad a childbirth.

i love tattoo's but just an F.Y.I. for you, if your planning on having children, a woman with a lower back tattoo cannot have an epidural ( painkiller to make childbirth more bearable) as the epidural is inserted into the spine of the lower back and if any of the ink goes into your spinal column major complications could arise

You just get what you want because if you start with something small you might have a tattoo for the rest of your life that you don't really like.
Yes, tattoos hurt. The less fat, the more they hurt.
