but praise for the doctors and nurses who saved my life not once but twice. How do you feel about our Angels of Mercy. Good or bad and why please?

Some people are never happy unless they are complaining. They should try living in a country where unless you can pay, you can't get medical help. My ex is American and had no health insurance. He paid about $80 just for a standard GP consultation and the same amount for a prescription for antibiotics. Total cost here - one prescription charge.

Of course, I did work in the NHS for quite a few years, so I know a lot of its bad points too. But generally I think it's a fantastic institution.

The NHS is great! I'm a nurse I have been in hospital myself and had the same treatment as everyone else, which it was nothing but the best , when my child went into intensive care, he was looked after EXTREMELY well, in fact it was the way the health care team looked after him that made me go into nursing! as for the comment made by Joke F, we Do make mistakes but don't forget it is your right to ask for the nurses and doctors to wash their hands or use the alcohol that is at the bottom of the beds before you are treated. Infection control is at the top of everyone's list at present

I think the NHS gets a very bad press when it doesn't deserve it! My local gp's surgery, several consultants at my local hospital and (when I've had to be in) the nurses have all been excellent. They have given me courtesy, respect and such loving care that I really appreciate what they do for me. I think nurses aren't paid enough for the work that they do!!!!

All hospital staff I have been in contact with have been excellent, but you need to get passed A&E first, and I'm afraid it's the pure pot luck, what type of doctor you get there...

I also don't like the waiting lists and the fact that you have to be really pushy to see a specialist. Whatever happened to British politeness? If you are quiet and shy, you won't even get to see your normal GP because the receptionist won't give you an appointment!

Strange times indeed...

I think the NHS is marvellous and cant knock it at all the people that do knock it should pay to go private . I think that if people keep on slating it and suing it then it will end and we will all have to pay for treatment and do we really want that i dont think so . Fair enough its not perfect but what / who is.

The nhs is brill and i would support it all the way. Health is so important and they all work very hard, especially the medical staff. All that studying and long hours and saving lives, not to mention all the blood and stuff(yuck) and emotional side- give them footballers wages i say!

i like yourself have the NHS to thank for saving my life. without their hard work and dedication to their job i would not be here today. unfortunately no matter how hard our nurses and doctors work there will always be someone who will speak negative.

I went in healthy and came out with MRSA.
It's pretty sore in a kidney.
These people should wash their hands before twiddling with your bits.
