I am starting a new job this week at a major department store. It is on a main avenue and there is no or very limited parking in the back, she said to park where customers park and there is a meter for 25 cents every 1/2 hour (maximum 2 hours). She mumbled something about once I get in the system maybe she can fix it but I am concerned.
1. Even if I keep running outside every 2 hours to fill up the machine with quarters, that means I have to go to the bank and get rolls of quarters and I work from 10 to 8pm so that's 10 hours or $5 a day in quarters. Do I have a right to be reimbursed for that? I am afraid to ask on my first day of work, or will she try to get away with making me pay if I don't bring it up?
2. I am afraid my car could be towed (it's an expensive car) because I am staying longer than the 2 hour max. and someone might complain that that red car has been parked there all day. Or if I get a ticket? There are a lot of cops and traffic guards around that street.

Should I approach an officer & explain the situation or would that make more trouble for myself?

Quit whining and go get another job. This one sounds like a good one to quit.

You have to be firm with your boss. You SHOULD be a valued employee, brand new or not. She wouldn't have hired you if she didn't believe you were worth it. So act like it. Stand up for yourself. You cannot risk having your vehicle towed at expense to you, and secondly...is this job really worth it if every day of work you have to plan ahead to bring in rolls of quarters and spend that much money to simply park your car? If you choose to believe it is worth it to plan ahead, bring all those quarters, at your expense... then tell her, you will be going outside every 2 hours to update the toll. If she has a problem with that she can either give you a place to park or find someone else. You need to be firm, don't let her walk all over you because shes the boss of the store, you're the boss of you, and thats more important.
Also you can't risk hoping to work it out with a cop if your car gets caught being parked there without the meter money. Cops don't care so don't hope for a nice one that will let you go because thats unlikely...also you can't be worrying about that every single day either.
So be firm. Make a decision on whats most important to you. Don't ever let anyone walk all over you. You'll end up getting more respect in the end anyway...

See, if the nearest church or sinagoque in a comfortable walking distance can let you park during the day in their parking lot, Try to find a church or synagoque or a temple of your own domination, usually when you asking favors from same religious dominations...most of the time they are more understanding and try to help.Legally she does n't have to provide you parking space...for the time been you are the newest of the team, the other employees that came before you have seniority rights...But see if she will provide parking space for EMPLOYEES that they will be hired in the future... and still will be ignoring your parking needs...then get LEGAL ADVISE to what action you will take. If Iwas you I will be looking for another job, or ask for transfer where parking is available, or leave the car home and use public transportation, or let friend or familly to give you transportation back and forth until you solve this problem.NICK

Call your local traffic enforcement office and ask them what they think you should do. Call corporate headquarters of the department store and ask them what their policy is on parking. It's hard to know with out knowing what city your in. Isn't there parking garages that you can park in and get your parking validated by the department store?

$100 per month for parking for a department store job? Look for another job and if you want to stay there, ask other employees what they do.

Get a ride for the first few days or get there early to get the parking in back.
How about taking a bus or other mass transit?
Find somebody to carpool with.
The cops aren't going to care-- they'll write you a ticket.

Ask other employees where they park and if they have passes, etc. You should NOT have to incur parking expenses. I would also try to call the human resources dept for this store to ask.

You can claim that on your taxes (even if you can't you can). That's what I would do. If not, can you ride the bus or park in a parking lot a few blocks away?
