ME!!! British army is THE BEST!!!!

My dad served in WWII and 5 of my great uncles served in WWI.

(I'm 34 btw - dad was 52 when I was born!)

My dad couldn't stand the American army. He served alongside them and found them sloppy, indisciplined, arrogant and more interested in chasing skirt than anything else.

Plus they had a nasty habit of shooting at and bombing him and his comrades in so called "friendly fire" (which they still do today). They couldn't hit the enemy if he was standing next to them.

During his time in Monte Casino (Italy) during WWII my dad and his comrades spent a "pleasant" week picking corpses out of the trees after the Americans in their "wisdom" decided to bomb a monstery hospital and graveyard.

As for "they saved our arses in WWII" did they hell. Excuse me but where were the Yanks when the Battle of Britain was being fought? They didn't give a damn until Pearl Harbour was attacked. They made their contribution the same as the Aussies, the Canadians, The Commonwealth troops (Indians etc) and the rest of the Allied troops did, and now they want to take all the credit for it.

And for any Amercian who disagrees that the British army is the best - who had to hold Bush's hand when he went into Afghanistan and Iraq? Oh thats right, the British army. Who do the Americans call when they are in shite street and need a fast evacuation? The SAS.

They are good at starting wars they can't finish too (see Vietnam where they got their arses handed to them by a bunch of farmers with pitchforks).

I agree that the British army is the best trained army in the world and also the most professional. I have now been the it for 4 years and I leave it next year. The US does have better funding however the Brits have better ECM equipment to counter terrorist bombs etc- lessons learnt from Northern Ireland.

US has better air force that is why it can destroy anything, but destroying everything is'nt always imperative. Hearts and minds, a tactic Britain uses ensures civilian morale and soldier's morale is kept high.

British SAS are without doubt the most highly trained expert killers that have the best equipment in the British army.

Long live the Royal Irish Regiment. No surrender!

Big question. But what makes the best army in the world? Is it the technology, is it maybe the numbers? No that's strength and advancement. An army is made up of individuals. Individuals who can think for themselves, who can find where they live on a map, and know where they are going on a map. Basically intelligent people who are on the same level. If our government were to put the money on the line, we would have the best army in the world in all the above criteria. Unfortunately they wont so we just have to be content with having the best soldiers in the world

I would readily agree that it is among the best. These kind of things are subject to change, and are judged by many factors, e.g. the morale of the soldiers, the condition of the equipment including weaponry, the efficiency of logistics, even the pay of the soldiers.

Among other militaries (you did not mention the Royal Navy, Marines, by the way) those vying for first place are the Israeli Defense Force, the Russians, the Indians, the Chinese, the Americans, the South Africans, and the Al Qaeda, although the last would not be considered as having an army per se, it does have a very effective fighting force.

I did almost forget to mention the French, the Koreans, and the Anzac (Australia-New Zealand) .

i does not say the British military is the finest contained in the international, for that identify you won't be able to extremely look everywhere else besides the undeniable fact that the u . s ., besides the undeniable fact that Britain honestly excels in some parts. The British Infantry, Paras and Marines have the longest and toughest undemanding preparation of any common regiments contained in the international, and their health and soldiering skills might want to be considered elite by many different armies criteria. The RLC military college of Ammunition in Kineton is the finest munitions college contained in the international bar none, the position that different armies clamour to deliver their ammunition technicians. Our particular Forces are also between the finest contained in the international, or honestly have the popularity for it, besides the undeniable fact that taking into consideration that the finest covert operations stay covert, that is problematical to truly analyze it with something else of the international. even as all significant armies boast they have the finest tank, the Challenger 2 has a strive against list second to none. Our officials are not 0.5 undesirable both, all having graduated from RMA Sandhurst, the finest protection force academy contained in the international. besides the undeniable fact that, the proposed budget cuts by the coalition authorities honestly received't help concerns, and centuries of military custom may be undone by a unmarried second of David Cameron lunacy.

See you have all the gung ho Americans having a go now, the question should be which Army has the best soldiers! Everyone knows that when it comes to the American Army they have a money no object attitude, but when it comes down to making do out of what they are given, and the best training, and knowing how to deal with dangerous situations (not just go in all guns blazing) then it has to be the Brit's. I know that in Kosovo patrol units in jeeps take a stray dog that they pic up as soon as they get there, and a football. The dog is for the kids to stroke and play with, the football is for the teenagers, after 5 minutes of the dog and the football game the kid's dont even notice they are playing with soldiers. That is how to police a HOT ZONE.

Great armies are those that have pride in their traditions and the sprit-de-corps these create and are mature enough to realise that traditions and reputations by themselves are not sufficient to win battles and update their training and knowledge to keep up with the changing world. With these considerations in mind, yes, I would agree in considering the British Army and Royal Marines as the best. The RAF and the RN are handicapped in equipment but their human component is also the best.

I agree that it is one of the best, the SAS, Royal Marines and so on are immensely well trained, we're only a little country though and can't swamp enemies like the US army can, but i think maybe those in the british army have higher training, just not as many people in it.

Pound for pound(and that's both meanings), the British Army punches way above its class.
Our Soldiers do us proud all over the World in all sorts of scenarios and deserve every ounce of respect they get, and more besides.
There's a reason their recruiting slogan is
"Be the Best". It's because they are.
