Sure, just be careful. If you don't normally drink anything can affect you differently and more quickly than a "regular" drinker.

It will probably hit you faster than other forms of alcohol so be aware. The first time I had champagne I was feeling it by the time I finished the glass. Normally, I can have 3 glasses of wine before I start to feel it. Sparkling wines will have the same effect as champagne's do so if you are not a regular drinker, I would suggest starting out with a non-sparkling table wine.

Absolutely!!! If you are a first time champagne drinker, make sure you don't get the cheap stuff with the fake bubbles. If you do, it will basically be like drinking cheap, carbonated white wine, and you will be disapointed. There are some decent champagnes and sparkling wines out there that are inexpensive. Try "Sophia Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine" by Coppola, it's fun, and you can get in handy little individual cans...yes, cans. Or a bottle of Chandon Brut Classic (another sparkling wine)

In terms of intoxicating ability, champagne would not be a good candidate if you can't handle quick influx of alcohol. Alcohol in champagne (as other bubbly, or sparkling wine) gets absorbed at a much faster than still wine, thus you'd feel the effect of alcohol faster.
In terms of the pleasure, champagne is not as simple as it sounds. Good quality champagnes have complex and very subtle and delicate aroma that many beginners can't really appreciate. And the price is not helpful as well.
Oh yeah, unlike mentioned above, most of champagne are DRY as supposed to be sweet. Those "sweet champagne" mostly are actually cheap sparkling wine like "baby duck", pose very little resemblance to the true champagne, so if you like those, you may not necessarily like champagne.
If you wanna start to apppreciate sparkling wine, I'd suggest you to start with more affordable version sparkling wine, such as Asti and Spumante from Italy, or Cremant d'Alsace or Cremant de Bourgogne, which are close enough to average champagne.

Champagne is fine, as long as you eat something first. Alcohol is absorbed very quickly by your stomach. Added to this, both the high sugar content and the carbonation speed up the absorption of alcohol.
Being both sweet and bubbly, champagne can get you drunk really fast unless you're either used to drinking (which you say you're not) or have enough food in your stomach to slow down the digestive process.
Something light but not too easy to digest should do the trick. Try some chicken or other protein, they seem to work best.
Cheers!

Champagne is great to drink and over indulging on any alcoholic drink will make you ill. If you're not a regular drinker then just limit yourself. Lanson Black Label is a great modestly priced Champagne. Enjoy.

Kind of, because you can drink it as easy as soda, but it's pretty strong. If you're not a regular drinker, you're gonna get messed upon a few glasses.

Champagne will make you very drunk and sick if you are not used to drinking alcohol. Drink very little of it (one - two glasses, max)
