This is for partial research for my recent novel for one of my secondary characters. I've been to the FBI website to get some general idea on what they do from fingerprints to DNA analysis. Do they have different requirements than to be a special agent in the FBI? P.S. (I've tried to inquire the FBI and the ABI (Arizona Bureau Investigation) with my questions, and got no word, when I emailed them this summer. Do you know why?

Forensics do not need a special requirement and don't need to be a special agent.
I'm not sure about the USA but in Australia, the Forensics Department are made up of Senior Constables and higher.
To become a Forensics Officer you need to be in the job for at least 3 years, then you have the chance to apply for Forensics Department.
The only requirement would be to have completed some studies regarding Forensics, such as Certficate IV Forensic Science or a diploma or degree.
There are many type of Forensics, there are "Bench Scientists" where they go out to a crime scene, take samples and photos required and go back to the lab to test it all out, some tests are passed onto different sectors, such as Forensic Arsonists who work with bombs, guns etc, Forensic Biologists who work with the biology side such as skin cells, as well Forensics who work with trees, bark, dirt, leaves to try match the crime scene with an offender.
The FBI & ABI would be far too busy to answer your questions, go to the website and try find some information, if no avail, call recruiting. They are always more than happy to help you with inquiries.

I think you should learn how to spell forensics before you write a book about it.

you could try filing a Freedom of Information Act request to get more information. They'll probably still deny you the info, but you never know.

yes they would have to be a trained scientist in that field, blood, chemical, biological. They are office people who work in a lab, not having any law enforcement rating.

They get 1000's of emails, most likely never read yours.
