whilst I think that (to a degree) all points of view are valid and I would never presume to question or belittle anyone elses faith it seems to me that this question raises another, far scarier, question. If the Bible is accurate and we are, as some people maintain, to take it as written fact what happens when we get to heaven? is it some sort of test?
Am I going to get to the pearly gates and be told that actually the Dinosaur bones were just a practical joke left by the almighty to test peoples faith and if I believed that dinosaurs existed I'm going to hell? If this is the case do I actually want to follow a deity who, if this is the case, may follow me around paradise for the rest of time with a joy buzzer and a whoopie cushion? Am I the only one out there totally freaked out that the all powerfull creator of life the universe and everything may be sitting on a cloud somewhere and giggling everytime someone falls over a rake?

Wake up to true science. Apply these principles.
Understanding science is essential in order to refute the dogmatic mind. In science there are no absolute truths, no sacred cows, and no great secret to be discovered that will allow all scientists in a field to retire and go home. Instead, all hypotheses and theories are subject to modification and even replacement as new research and discoveries become available. Science is not dogmatic, and those who try to present it dogmatically are doing it a disservice. It is important to understand the basics of several scientific concepts in order to understand the nature of science and the method central to it.
A summarized format for the Scientific Method is as follows¹:
1) Ask a question concerning observations which have been made.
2) Propose a hypothesis which could explain the reason(s) for the observations.
3) Make a prediction (which would hold true if the hypothesis were correct).
4) Test the prediction.
5) Draw a conclusion based on the outcome of the test.
Note: Use of controls, replication of experiment(s) and publication of results are also employed when using the scientific method.
Now apply this to creation !!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, one man's fact is another man's fiction. Actually, I watched a doco on the new Christian theory of 'Intelligent Design'. Their idea is everything is so intricate and perfect it had to have a grand architect (God). This is how they get around 'Evolution'. Now that's an ok theory but they want to teach it in schools under Science. Science doesn't have all the answers either, but I think we're in dangerous territory when a religious theory parades as scientific fact. So if Science is being invaded, I think you can safely bet that History got the Christian spin a long time ago.

Everything (or at least every declarative statment) is a "theory". A "theory" in the sense that it cannot be comprehensively validated and must always be subject to revision in the light of new facts.
You cannot prove that the floor which supports you will continue to do so - its a theory.
You cannot prove that your legs will continue to carry you - its a theory
You cannot PROVE that you are typing on a computer and not an empty box - its a theory.
Some other things that are "just" theories:
1. The specific theory of relativity
2. The general theory of relativity
3. The first law of theormodynamics
4. Newton's laws of mechanics and yes:
5. Jesus rose from the dead

Actually, history has a lot more in common with the bible in that it was written subjectively by man. Look at the Christopher Columbus example you gave. He discovered America according to most and yet their were people living her and a viking explorer that proceeded him. Why were we taught that he discovered America? Someone wants to manipulate the facts and change our views on the world. Dare I say they want to control us. Control is the ultimate purpose of organized religion. It works like this: Your not suppose to question the bible. Your suppose to have faith, so you never really investigate the world around you. All your judgments (politically or not) are based on this book a man wrote.

History is organic, it can change, and regularly does as events and data allow. Christianity is a dogma , it does not allow of re-interpretation, it is a belief system, not a facts system. You fail to understand History if you imagine that "someone finds a few bones - and puts two and two together". History contains speculative theories, this is necessary when dealing with elusive facts, but it does not claim supreme truth, only a wish to discover and record as much "fact" as possible.

I agree with the first poster.
History is a theory based on the fact that it isnt a 'fact' it is a specific viewpoint of certain events.
You can never KNOW it enuf to call it a "fact" in fact it is always changing , a lot of new discoveries change current "facts" about history.
I hate the word "fact" people use it so many times without ever having complete knowledge of what they are talking about. ( I used it 6 times :-) )

History isn't theory if there's hard-core evidence to back it up! e.g. we KNOW that Vesuvius erupted in the AD 70s because a guy called Pliny wrote about it - now of course Pompeii has been discovered so proves it happened! etc
Evolution is a different kettle of fish (the same with creation) both sides don't have hard core PHYSICAL evidence that the world is the age each side says it is! Although Creation evidence makes far more sense to me than evolution! Both sides come from different world views and pre-suppositions!

". . . knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts and saying, 'Where is the promise of Jesus' coming? For since our forefathers died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.' For this they willingly forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth was destroyed by a mighty flood, by which the world that then existed perished."
2 Peter 3:3-6
People like you make me excited! You're a mocker and a scoffer of the Bible! You're a living propecy come true!
Turn to Jesus, sweetheart. He'll save you.

Don't take me to seriously I agree with your point. There is something that struck me as funny. You write :we find sum thing about the great roman's put it together and this is the way they lived there life
The "Great" romans were perdominantly Christians.
May GOD richly bless you and you are more then welcome to believe any school of thought you want to. Don't let us bother you.
