If this is something that would be a dream come true to you : ask them to please stop thinking negatively about it . Join the military and learn how to fly. Tell them that your hearts desire is to become a pilot.Go to college to achieve all the knowledge that you can. Make this goal a priorty in your life and in time they will see that your are very serious and headstrong about this. And whatever you do ,don't let them stop you. You are making a very good career choice. And if you allow their comments to stop you , then I believe you will regret it. You cannot live your life for them , you have to live it for you. GOOD LUCK TO YOU! I do wish you the best.

My Dad has been a pilot for 36 years. He was QFI in the RAF for 15 odd years, trained pilots in Saudi for 10 years and is now a civilian training Military pilots. He has been all over the world and has loved every minute of his life. Flying is his life. Don't give up on your dream, if this is what you really want to do, go for it, if you don't you may always regret it. It can be a risky job but you are given training for every situation in the job that you do and if you are trained you will be able to deal with them. Life is full of unknown risks that we do not think about day to day.
Explain to your loved ones how much this means to you, they love you and are afraid that they may lose you, but they must not hold you back, whatever you choose to do in life there is always an element of risk and you cannot avoid that.
Hope it all works out for you!!

Good for you, if you dont try for it you might live a nice long life but still regret not going for something you wanted to do.
Its true that its a riskier job than being say an accountant but thats why its exciting, and you will be fully trained and its more likely you get knocked down by a car as a padestrian than dying in a plane crash! Im hoping to join the fire service and that has risks attatched, but you have to go for what you want as this is your life.

Well, I'm sure they'd love to support you, but you are dealing with fear. They love you and they feel you are going into a hazardous profession.
However, do hold onto your dream. Just quit sharing it with everyone. It's not like it can happen right now anyway. Pull good grades, do the things that will get you into a good aviation school. Quit trying to justify your goals to everyone. When you go for training, then bring up discussion again. Just try to show them a person who makes responsible decisions for now. It will build a foundation for them to feel they can respect the Pilot goal later on.

What kind of pilot do you want to be, because there are many jobs that involve flying that are not dangerous. I am in the Air Force and pilots do not get shot down often at all, they are in expensive planes that work well. Tell your parents you have more of a change to die in a car crash, or heart disease than a plane.

Your dream is your dream, not theirs.... They should support your dream and encourage you to go forth and do it... There are risks in picking up a drink containing a tainted ice-cube. you could get shot in a drive by... You want to do something very honourable and it is such a wonderful experience. I think if you already know what direction you want to take, that is great. Lots of people wander around never having a goal in life... Go for it.....Once they see you are serious they will turn it around..... They are parents and of course love you and worry about your safety,, that is admirable but you must live your life and putting a plastic bubble around you will not protect you from the world and its perils.....

I think its cool that you want to be a pilot, l was a F-16 pilot when l was in the air force. Just tell them that flying is safer than any other means of transportation.
