because people needed something to believe in. I don't think people on here are going to be very happy with my explaination but I personally feel it was started/written to oppress women. Is it a coincidence that all the women in the bible, with the exception of Mary, were whores and evil sinners? When it said in the bible that because we are women we can't serve the lord in the same way a man could...what's that about? Christianity has been oppressing women for years and I believe that was their intended future when they started the religion. Sorry if I offend anyone.

FYI ~ I was raised a catholic and went to catholic school so I have heard everything you will say in response to my explaination.

Christianity was started when Christ came down and was born of the Virgin Mary and grew up and had His ministry and was crucified, buried, arose and ascended into Heaven. Then the Holy Spirit came down on those gathered together to receive it on the day of Pentecost and they became the Christian Church. Their mission, or the why of it, was to go into all the world and preach the gospel to everyone and to cause as many as possible to repent, accept Jesus as their Savior and be baptised in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The Bible was written because it was inspired by God through various men at various times....and the books of the Old Testament were written some for warnings to the people about what was to come...some as books of laws...some were just poetry...etc.

These two things have some relationship of course, but many parts of the Bible were written before the Christian Church was formed.

Somebody did not just sit down and write the Bible. It has many different authors spanning a lot of time. The individual books of the Bible were selected out of many others. There was a lot of debate as to the ones included and the ones to be left out. There are books out there that some believe should be a part of the bible. Maybe you need to do a little more research.

Bible - imagine you are living 3,000 years ago. Your world is limited to th edistance you can walk in a day (about 20 miles). That is it. You have no concept of the Earth. Things are born, and die. Plants grow from seeds. Big shiny things travel across the sky every day. Some people get ill and die, but there are no physical outward signs. Some just clutch their chest and drop dead. How do you explain that? It must be some kind of supernatural "thing", so you write a book about it.

In the book, you say that your god will send his son to save the world. Well, a story like that needs a sequel.

How about taking a a couple of college courses in church history, and comparitave religions. Your questions is too big, hon. Google things like Development of the Bible, History of Christianity, History of the Bible, etc. Otherwise, ask a smaller question. All of the answers have already been written.

Scriptures were written before christianity, or else how do you explain Jesus always going to what is written. Scriptures were written from the beginning of time and if you read the bible (even with all of it's mistranslations and not being chronologically correct) we get a pretty good idea of man's history on earth.

Christianity started once Jesus began his teachings and those who followed him and lived according to His teachings were and are still called christians.

Beware all denominations have picked up this term loosely, but not everyone who professes to be a christian is. Jesus has a list of how you will recognize them and the main one is love. Jesus told us that love is the greatest of all the commandments for if you love you will be unable to defile God's commandments. Peace

I think the bible was written by people who wanted to record the stories that had been passed down through the generations.

I think Christianity was started originally by people who wanted to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ. More of a thought system and way of life then a religion. I think when people started forming organized religions and removing books from the bible and writing there own doctrines they did so to control the populace and then to ultimately make money for the church.

P.S. For the girl below....most of the scriptures were written 150 to 400 years after the death of Jesus.

Christianity was "started" to save humankind from it's sins. The Bible was written as a guide, history, and prophecy for God's people.

God ordained this- He wanted HIS word to be written so that everyone could hear his wonderful Truth and for those that believe, to live by it- it is how we who believe in HIM stay on the "narrow path" with Him- by searching the scriptures as it says in Acts. By studying the word of God, it equips us and is our helmet and sword!

2 Peter 1:21
For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 6:17
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Christianity was started because Jesus told his disciples to, "Go and take word to my bretheren."( Word meaning the good news or the Holy word.)
